ABOUT WESSELS
The South Africa Manganese operation can be found in the manganese rich Kalahari Basin, in the country’s Northern Cape, which is home to 80 per cent of the world's manganese. This position is based at our Wessels Mine which represents one of the largest manganese reserves in South Africa.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
This role is a permanent full-time position.
As a Winding Engine Driver, you will be responsible to monitor and Control the Safe Operation of the Mine Winder to Transport People, Equipment and Materials..
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Receive and reply to signals from Banksman and onsetter for starting and stopping conveyances according to chapter 8 of the Mine Health and Safety Act;
- Be conversant with Mine Health and Safety Act and assume responsibility for the logbook and the completion there of.
- Record conditions winding engine daily and complete drivers`s logbook
- Conduct regular checks on all signalling devices, access doors and signalling lights;
- Adhering to all safety Emergency procedures;
- Drive under controlled conditions during Shaft Examinations and repairs;
- Physically operating the winding engine for lowering and raising of men and material
- Ensure that weight and loading regulations are strictly adhered to;
- Test the mechanical and electrical safety devices on winding plants;
- Performing non-routine work on the winders with engineering teams I.E cutting front and backends, shaft repairs and changing of conveyances.
- Identifying electrical and/ or mechanical faults picked up during operation of winding plant and reporting to the responsible maintenance personnel.
- Stopping the Winding operations if the working conditions are unsafe.
- Start and take control of winders and shut down winding plants;
- Maintain the housekeeping standards in the work area;
- Safe operating of Winding Engine in accordance with chapter 8 of the Mine Health and Safety Act.
ABOUT YOU:
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Winder Engine Driver;
- Must have driven a winder in the last 2 years as an appointed WED.
Qualifications for this role are:
- Grade 12;
- Government Hoist Drivers certificate for AC and DC winders as per regulation 8.13.105 of the Mine Health and Safety Act;
- Onsetter`s certificate;
- Valid drivers license.
