S&P Global is an American financial information company whose oldest predecessor was founded in 1860, and which took its present form through the 2022 merger with IHS Markit. Its most profitable business is the credit rating agency S&P Global Ratings, alongside market data and analytics through Market Intelligence, the index business behind the S&P 500, commodity price assessments through Platts, and Mobility, which owns the Carfax vehicle history service. Headquartered in New York and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, it earns most of its revenue from subscriptions and recurring fees rather than transaction-linked ratings work.

About the Role:

Grade Level (for internal use):

13

The Role: Director, Software Engineering

The Team: This role partners with global platform, architecture, governance, security, data mastering, and Databricks-aligned teams to ensure offshore delivery aligns with enterprise standards. The team collaborates with partner teams, offshore teams, and upstream/downstream stakeholders to drive data platform initiatives and foster engineering excellence.

Responsibilities and Impact:

  • Drive Data Pipeline Transition and Platform Delivery: Partner with the core Databricks team to plan and execute the transition of existing data pipelines to the target enterprise data platform, implementing repeatable engineering patterns for ingestion, transformation, testing, deployment, and monitoring across onboarded datasets.
  • Champion AI-Assisted Engineering: Lead the adoption of AI-powered development tools like Claude, GitHub CoPilot, and LLMs to increase engineering velocity, code quality, and operational effectiveness, while developing context engineering practices and reusable context packs.
  • Provide Technical Direction for Data Onboarding: Guide offshore teams in defining and operationalizing asset-agnostic onboarding patterns for a broad range of data assets, domains, and source systems, establishing reusable ingestion and processing patterns across batch and streaming use cases.
  • Support Data Mastering Platform Integration: Integrate platform pipelines and datasets with the enterprise data mastering platform, establishing data quality controls, reconciliation processes, and metadata alignment to support trusted mastered data.
  • Influence Semantic Modeling and Data Discoverability: Support practices to create consistent business definitions, reusable data concepts, and governed consumption patterns, partnering with business, architecture, data governance, and platform teams.
  • Drive Technical Influence and Engineering Excellence: Serve as a senior technical expert for offshore data platform engineering, influencing architectural decisions, providing technical guidance to engineers and partner teams, and contributing to design/code reviews for complex data platform initiatives.

What We’re Looking For:

Basic Required Qualifications:

  • An S&P Global employee at this level would typically have 10+ years of experience in data engineering, data platforms, cloud data architecture, software engineering, or related engineering domains.
  • Demonstrated experience operating as a senior Individual Contributor, technical lead, principal engineer, staff engineer, distinguished engineer, architect, or equivalent role in complex data platform environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with modern data engineering and pipeline development, including batch and/or streaming data workflows, and experience with Databricks-based data platforms and lakehouse-oriented architectures.
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude, GitHub CoPilot, LLMs, or similar, and experience applying LLMs to engineering use cases like code generation and optimization.
  • We require all external candidates who reach the final stage of our interview process to attend at least one in-person interview, which is ordinarily at your nearest S&P Global office. This must be completed before we can proceed to an offer.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with enterprise data cataloging, metadata management, business glossary, lineage, operational metadata platforms, or semantic data layers.
  • Experience with NeoXam DataHub or NeoXam-style mastering workflows, including consolidation, cleansing, enrichment, and trusted downstream distribution of mastered data.
  • Knowledge of semantic modeling for designing consistent business definitions, improving data discoverability, and supporting governed data consumption.
  • Strong Leadership skills: including coaching, empowering others to maximize their performance, and working to build consensus across groups with competing priorities.
