SSE

SSE is a FTSE 100 energy company headquartered in Perth, Scotland, that builds and operates electricity networks and low-carbon generation in the UK and Ireland. Its businesses include SSE Renewables, SSE Thermal, SSEN Transmission and SSEN Distribution, SSE Energy Solutions and SSE Airtricity, backed by a fully funded 33 billion pound five-year investment programme in wind, HVDC links and grid upgrades. It hires power system, electrical and civil engineers, HVDC project engineers, trainee linespeople and cable jointers, fitters, unit operators, analysts, finance advisors and graduates.

Base Location: At site in Donegal or County Mayo

Salary: €76,100-€114,100 / £58,100-£87,100 + car/car allowance if applicable + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Site Based

The Role

This is an opportunity to take real ownership of the electrical delivery behind some of Ireland’s next generation of renewable energy infrastructure.

SSE Renewables is expanding its construction capability across Ireland, and we’re looking for an experienced Electrical Construction Package Project Manager (CPPM) to lead the Electrical Balance of Plant (eBoP) package across major Onshore Wind, Solar and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects like Drumnahaugh Wind Farm and Mullafarry BESS.

You don’t necessarily need to have built a wind farm before. What matters is that you understand complex electrical construction, HV and LV infrastructure, contractors, programme, commercial risk and, most importantly, how to deliver safely. Your experience could have been gained in renewable energy, utilities, transmission and distribution or another major infrastructure environment.

You’ll take ownership of the electrical package through construction, testing, commissioning and handover, working with contractors, technical specialists and the wider project team to turn plans into safely delivered assets.

It’s a role with accountability, visibility and plenty of opportunity to influence how we deliver projects, not simply monitor them.

You Will

  • Own Electrical Package Delivery: Lead the planning, coordination and delivery of eBoP work packages, holding contractors and delivery partners accountable for safety, programme, quality and cost, while playing an active role in wider site delivery.

  • Put Safety and Quality First: Champion a strong safety culture across your package, ensuring electrical construction is delivered to the required SSE and industry standards while overseeing installation, inspections, testing and commissioning.

  • Keep Delivery Moving: Understand what is happening on site, anticipate issues before they become problems and monitor progress against key milestones. Provide clear reporting across programme, risk, budget and performance and maintain effective project controls and governance.

  • Manage the Commercial Detail: Administer NEC and/or FIDIC contracts, manage contractor performance, change and variations, and work collaboratively with commercial colleagues to identify and manage cost, programme and delivery risks.

  • Bring People With You: Build productive relationships across project teams, contractors, consultants, landowners, regulatory authorities and local communities. You’ll communicate clearly, challenge when needed and work collaboratively to achieve the right outcome.

You Have

  • Strong Electrical Knowledge: A degree, qualification or equivalent practical experience in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline, combined with experience of delivering HV and LV electrical infrastructure.

  • Construction Delivery Experience: A track record of taking complex construction packages from planning through execution, commissioning and handover. This could have been developed across renewables, utilities, transmission, distribution or other major infrastructure projects.

  • A Safety-First Approach: Strong knowledge of health, safety and environmental requirements within construction environments and the confidence to positively influence safe behaviours across contractors and project teams.

  • Commercial Awareness: Experience working with NEC and/or FIDIC contracts, alongside a good understanding of project controls, risk, change and cost management.

  • Leadership and Practical Delivery Skills: You’ll be comfortable making decisions, solving problems and building strong working relationships with a wide range of people. As our projects are located across Ireland, regular travel and site-based working will be part of the role, and you’ll need a full, clean driving licence.
