Job Summary

• The AI-Native Engineer is responsible for discovering, assessing, prototyping and redesigning end-to-end business processes using Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, Agentic AI, automation and data products. The role performs structured process discovery, assesses business value, establishes baseline metrics, evaluates data readiness, identifies the most appropriate AI solution pattern, and builds rapid prototypes using Microsoft AI suites or open-source models. • The role sits within the AI Centre of Excellence and acts as a practical bridge between business, process, data, engineering and governance teams. It is accountable for translating current-state process pain points into future-state AI-enabled operating models aligned to a North Star 2030 vision.
• The role is expected to deliver measurable outcomes across productivity, cycle-time reduction, quality improvement, control uplift, risk reduction and user experience.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy

• Support the AI transformation agenda by identifying processes that can be materially improved or reimagined using AI, GenAI, agentic AI, workflow automation and data-enabled solutions.
• Apply a 2030-forward mindset to challenge current ways of working and design future-state operating models that are simpler, faster, more intelligent and better controlled.
• Assess emerging AI capabilities, Microsoft AI tools, open-source models and reusable enterprise patterns to recommend practical solutions for business problems.
• Contribute to reusable AI design patterns, prototype assets, discovery methods, value frameworks and process redesign playbooks.

Business

• Conduct structured process discovery with process owners, product owners, SMEs, operations teams and technology partners to understand the current-state journey.
• Map end-to-end processes including upstream inputs, workflow steps, systems, decisions, controls, handoffs, rework, exceptions, downstream outputs and user experience.
• Identify process friction, manual effort, delays, duplication, control gaps, data issues, knowledge gaps and decision bottlenecks that can be addressed using AI.
• Assess business value across productivity, capacity release, cycle-time reduction, cost avoidance, quality improvement, risk reduction, improved control effectiveness and better decision support.
• Create value hypotheses and business cases supported by quantified benefit assumptions, baseline metrics and prioritization rationale.

Processes

• Establish baseline metrics for current-state processes, including process volumes, effort consumption, cycle time, SLA performance, error rates, rework levels, control breaks, cost per transaction and productivity measures.
• Assess data readiness by reviewing data availability, quality, lineage, ownership, access pathways, source systems, unstructured content, knowledge repositories and remediation needs.
• Determine the right AI tool or solution pattern for the business problem, including Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Power Platform, Microsoft Fabric, intelligent automation, RAG architectures, knowledge agents, agentic workflows or open-source LLMs.
• Perform build, buy, reuse or partner assessments and recommend the most appropriate path based on business value, feasibility, risk, scalability, governance requirements and delivery complexity.
• Build prototypes, proof-of-concepts and minimum viable solutions using Microsoft AI suites, approved enterprise platforms or open-source models where appropriate.
• Redesign the end-to-end process into a North Star 2030 blueprint, defining the future-state human plus AI operating model, agent-in-the-loop and human-in-the-loop controls, decision flow, data dependencies and adoption approach.

Risk Management

• Ensure proposed AI solutions are designed in line with responsible AI, model risk, data privacy, security, operational resilience, conduct and regulatory expectations.
• Identify process, data, model, control, adoption, operational and implementation risks during discovery, prototyping and future-state design.
• Build appropriate human oversight, control checkpoints, usage boundaries, monitoring requirements and escalation points into solution designs.
• Partner with governance, risk, compliance and assurance stakeholders to ensure prototypes and scalable solutions are evidence-led, controlled and auditable.

Governance

• Maintain clear documentation of process discovery outputs, baseline metrics, value assessments, data readiness findings, solution fitment decisions, prototype results and North Star process designs.
• Support AI stage-gate forums and governance reviews with evidence-based recommendations on prioritisation, investment, progression, redesign or retirement.
• Track expected and realised value against agreed baselines and success measures.
• Ensure AI initiatives are traceable from problem statement to value case, prototype, future-state design and adoption plan.

Key Deliverables

• Process friction analysis, AI opportunity assessment and prioritisation recommendations.
• Baseline metrics scorecards covering volume, effort, cycle time, quality, rework, SLA, control and cost measures.
• Data readiness assessments covering data quality, availability, ownership, lineage, access and remediation requirements.
• AI solution fitment recommendations across Microsoft AI suites, enterprise platforms and open-source model options.
• Prototype solutions, proof-of-concepts and AI demonstrators validating feasibility, value and adoption potential.
• North Star 2030 process blueprints and future-state operating models for selected journeys.
• Human plus AI workforce design, including agent-in-the-loop and human-in-the-loop control models.
• Value realisation models, benefit tracking dashboards and executive-level transformation updates.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of experience in process transformation, consulting, AI delivery, digital transformation, business architecture, product engineering or operational excellence.
• Experience conducting process discovery, baseline measurement, value assessment and business case development.
• Experience building prototypes or MVPs using Microsoft AI platforms, enterprise automation tools or approved open-source technologies.
• Strong understanding of Generative AI, Agentic AI, RAG, automation, data products and responsible AI considerations.
• Experience working across business, technology, data, governance, risk and operations teams in a regulated environment is desirable.
