Senior Communications Manager, China

Job Summary

Develop and implement communications strategy and programs to continuously protect and promote the Bank's brand and bring to life the Bank's business strategy and core values via multiple external/internal touchpoints.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy

• Play a pivot role in developing and implementing communications strategy consistent with the Bank’s business strategies and priorities in China
• Continuously build profile and uplift visibility for the bank in areas relating to Corporate & Investment Banking, Branding initiatives and Corporate Social Responsibilities

Business

• Sound knowledge of the Bank’s global franchise, China market and a good understanding of the opportunities opening up for CIB business
• Develop and implement strategic communications plan and roadmap, focusing on the Bank's strategy and business priorities
• Focus on the following areas of CIB business from strategy to communications programmes & execution:
• Coverage - Corporates & Financial Institutions
• CIB Products - TB & FM
• Initiatives such as China Opening-up, Chinese Enterprises Going Global, RMB Internationalisation, Belt & Road, Financial Connectivity Schemes, Sustainable and Transition Finance, Digitalisation
• Executive profiling for senior executives' thought leadership in line with respective business focuses
• Develop press releases, executive speeches, Op-Ed, WeChat articles and LinkedIn posts for corporate and business communications related programs
• Arrange media interviews on proactive basis for major business developments/milestones and the Bank's focus areas
• Lead media relations for China East region and provide communications support for reputational risk management for incidents in East

Risk Management

• Adherence to laws and regulations, internal risk and compliance policies (including anti-money laundering, sanction, anti-bribery & corruption and relevant FCC risks) and the Group Code of Conduct
• Work closely with media monitoring agency to be aware of related media voice on potential issues and provide sound judgement and mitigation plan from communications perspective
• Play a key role in reputational risk management for the Bank, and work as a key CABM contact window for China East Region

Governance

• Ensure adherence to the Risk Management Framework, Group Code of Conduct and various Policies, Procedures and Guidelines of the Bank by the Group and China CABM teams
• Play a pivotal role in guiding relevant stakeholders on communications-related guidelines and best practices
• Maintain high awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the business operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role
• Completion of all mandatory training needed including e-learning within stated timeframes to support the understanding of the roles for delivering effective governance

Regulatory & Business Conduct

• Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
• Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
• Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.

Other Responsibilities

• Embed Here for good and Group’s brand and values in CABM
• Perform other responsibilities assigned under Group, Country, Business or Functional policies and procedures;
• Understand, acknowledge and comply with the requirements on individual accountabilities and responsibilities of the job set out in applicable local laws and regulations as well as SCB internal policies;
• Effectively ensure and intensify internal controls by keeping abreast with developments of applicable local laws and regulations on accountabilities;
• Perform job duties with diligence, contribute to efforts as an individual or as a team member so as to avoid any actual or potential legal sanctions, regulatory penalties, material financial loss, or adverse reputational impact on the Bank;
• Be responsible for failure to follow relevant rules and processes, failure to properly perform the responsibilities, and implement corrections;
• Cooperate with any investigations or reviews on regulatory failure such as accountability review.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of communications experience, preferably with experience related to the financial services industry
• Proven communications expertise, with the ability to develop and execute integrated communications strategies across earned, owned, and paid media channels
• Strong writing, editing, and content development skills in both Chinese and English
• Sound judgment and experience in issues and reputational risk management
• Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across businesses and functions
• Strong self-motivation, strategic thinking, adaptability, and a high-level attention to detail
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook); familiarity with digital communications platforms, social media analytics and AI-enabled productivity tools is an advantage
