What we are looking for:

ODF is looking for a Forest Manager 2 - Protection Unit Forester to manage a Unit within the Department of Forestry. This includes overseeing all programs administered within the Unit’s geographical area, such as Protection From Fire, Private and Community Forestry (PCF) and Administration.

These goals and associated duties include:

  • Supervise, direct, and monitor the work of employees across all skill levels (unskilled, skilled, administrative, technical, professional) assigned to various programs.

  • Plan Unit-level activities, strategies, and initiatives.

  • Review and approve plans and purchases.

  • Implement plans and strategies to support Unit, District, and State goals and objectives.

  • Ensure all actions align with the Department’s Mission/Vision, Strategic Plan, and the Forestry Program for Oregon (FPFO).

Minimum Qualifications:

Six (6) years of natural resource experience in areas such as wildland fire suppression, forest management, etc., which include assisting with a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, and d) budget preparation;

OR

Bachelor's degree in forestry or closely related natural resources field AND three (3) years of natural resource experience in areas such as wildland fire suppression, or forest management which includes which include assisting with a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, and d) budget preparation.

Note: Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for official State business. As part of the hiring process, the agency uses Advanced Reporting LLC to conduct all required DMV and CDL driving-record checks. Advanced Reporting LLC will obtain and review the driving record for the top candidate to verify possession of a valid license and an acceptable driving record.

Salary Determination:

Per the Pay Equity Law passed in 2017, a pay equity analysis for starting salary will be conducted to determine what pay step the successful candidate will be offered.
