State Street is an American financial institution founded in Boston in 1792 and one of the oldest banks in the United States, though its modern business bears little resemblance to retail banking. It is one of the three dominant global custodians, holding trillions of dollars of assets in safekeeping for institutional investors and providing the fund accounting, administration and settlement infrastructure that asset managers depend on. Its investment arm State Street Global Advisors created the first American exchange traded fund with the SPDR S&P 500 Trust and remains one of the largest index managers in the world.

About the Private Markets Fund of Funds Team

The Private Markets Fund of Funds (FoF) team supports the accounting and administration of investment structures that invest across underlying private market funds and, where applicable, co-investments. The team supports a broad range of private market strategies and structures, delivering accurate accounting records, Net Asset Value (NAV) production, investor reporting, and other client-specific deliverables. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the processing and reporting of capital calls, distributions, cash transactions, management fees, carried interest, expenses, reconciliations, and NAV-related activities. Team members work within established client requirements, operating procedures, and control frameworks to maintain complete and accurate accounting records and support timely reporting.

Who We Are Looking For

The Senior Associate (AM), Private Markets Fund of Funds Fund Accountant is responsible for coordinating day-to-day accounting and administration activities for assigned clients and investment structures. The role provides technical and process oversight, reviews NAV and reporting deliverables, resolves complex operational issues, supports projects and migrations, and provides guidance and on-the-job training to junior colleagues. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong ownership, sound judgment, effective stakeholder communication, and a consistent focus on quality, controls, and timely delivery.

Why This Role Is Important to Us

The team you will join is part of Alternative Investment Solutions (AIS), a recognized industry-leading provider of fund accounting, fund administration, and risk services to private equity, private credit, real estate, hedge fund, and other alternative investment clients. Our services are fully integrated to provide comprehensive end-to-end solutions across front-, middle-, and back-office operations.

Join us if you are ready to apply strong technical knowledge, coordinate complex fund accounting deliverables, and help strengthen team capability and client service.

What You Will Be Responsible For

  • Coordinate day-to-day accounting and administration activities for assigned Private Markets FoF clients and related investment structures, serving as a process subject matter resource.
  • Review NAV-related processes and deliverables, including bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, schedules of investments, partners’ capital statements, capital call and distribution allocations, management fee calculations, IRR and waterfall calculations, and relevant client-service deliverables.
  • Validate the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of assigned deliverables and ensure that review comments and outstanding items are resolved appropriately.
  • Investigate and resolve complex accounting, reconciliation, and operational issues; document conclusions and escalate material risks or judgmental matters when required.
  • Communicate effectively with upstream teams, downstream teams, home-site colleagues, and other service partners to coordinate information, resolve issues, and meet delivery requirements.
  • Maintain procedures and control documentation and support adherence to corporate compliance requirements, risk policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the daily operating model, controls, efficiency, and service quality, and support implementation with the manager.
  • Take an active role in projects, migrations, process enhancements, and other business initiatives, including planning and coordination of assigned workstreams.
  • Coordinate on-the-job training, provide technical and procedural guidance to junior colleagues, and contribute observations to staff development and succession-planning discussions.
  • Promote accountability, operational excellence, collaboration, knowledge sharing, and client focus across the team.

What We Value

  • Strong technical knowledge of private markets fund accounting and NAV production.
  • Ownership, sound judgment, and accountability for assigned deliverables and issue resolution.
  • Ability to review complex work, identify risks, and provide clear and constructive feedback.
  • Effective communication and collaboration across teams and locations.
  • Commitment to controls, continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and high-quality client service.

Key Skills

  • Advanced fund accounting, reconciliation, NAV, and financial-statement review skills.
  • Knowledge of capital activity, management fees, carried interest, IRR, waterfall calculations, and partnership accounting concepts.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues, determine practical next steps, and escalate appropriately.
  • Strong stakeholder communication, coordination, and follow-through.
  • Ability to maintain procedures, assess process risks, and contribute to control and operating-model enhancements.
  • Coaching and on-the-job training capability for junior team members.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with any private market fund accounting platform is an advantage.
  • Strong organization and prioritization in a deadline-driven environment.

Education and Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or above in accounting, finance, economics, or a related field; an accounting background is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in financial services, fund accounting, back-office operations, or a related field is preferred.
  • Relevant experience in private markets, private equity, fund-of-funds structures, or alternative investments is preferred.
  • Effective written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize under pressure, meet deadlines, and find practical solutions to complex, time-critical issues.
