Role Purpose

The Head of Fraud will lead the design, implementation and continuous enhancement of the enterprise Fraud Risk Management Framework across all business lines and jurisdictions. The role will set fraud strategy, strengthen prevention and detection capability, enhance control effectiveness, and provide senior-level insight on fraud risk, intelligence, analytics, governance and regulatory readiness.

The role reports to the Chief MLRO & Head of Financial Crime Prevention, EMEA.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Fraud Risk Framework & Methodology

  • Own and mature the enterprise Fraud Risk Management Framework, including taxonomy, typologies, risk definitions and assessment methodology.
  • Set fraud risk appetite, tolerance statements, escalation thresholds, KRIs, KCIs and senior reporting requirements.
  • Ensure fraud methodologies remain aligned to regulatory expectations, industry good practice and the organisation’s risk appetite.

Fraud Strategy & Governance

  • Set the fraud strategy, capability roadmap, governance structure and escalation model.
  • Provide executive insight, recommendations and MI to senior governance forums and decision-makers.
  • Escalate material fraud risks, control weaknesses, emerging threats, issues and remediation priorities.
  • Embed fraud risk challenge into new products, business activities, jurisdictions, material change, strategic initiatives and transformation programmes.
  • Support Board, Executive Risk Committee and regulatory engagement where required.

Fraud Controls & Prevention

  • Set minimum fraud prevention, detection and response control standards across customer, payment, trading and operational processes.
  • Challenge and strengthen first-line fraud control design, implementation, performance and automation.
  • Ensure fraud controls remain risk-based, proportionate and responsive to evolving threat patterns.

Fraud Analytics, Intelligence & Performance

  • Develop fraud intelligence, typology, trend and emerging threat monitoring capability.
  • Lead insight-driven analysis of fraud patterns, losses, near misses, scenarios, control effectiveness and performance metrics.
  • Drive advanced analytics, automation and AI adoption to improve fraud risk detection, prioritisation and decision-making.

Fraud Incident Management & Response

  • Set fraud incident management, escalation, response, notification and case handling standards.
  • Provide senior fraud expertise for investigations, incident reviews and significant internal or external fraud events.
  • Ensure root cause analysis, lessons learned and external stakeholder engagement are completed for material fraud incidents.

Regulatory & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the senior fraud subject matter expert for regulators, auditors, external assessors and senior stakeholders.
  • Build strategic relationships with industry bodies, intelligence-sharing forums and peer organisations.
  • Anticipate regulatory developments and ensure the fraud framework, methodologies and controls withstand audit and regulatory scrutiny.

Leadership & Capability Development

  • Lead specialist fraud professionals and develop scalable team capability.
  • Establish training, awareness, succession planning and specialist fraud expertise across the function.
  • Drive a culture of proactive fraud risk ownership, accountability and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Skills & Experience

  • Significant senior experience leading fraud risk management, fraud prevention and fraud control programmes within financial services.
  • Deep expertise in fraud risk frameworks, typologies, controls, governance and regulatory expectations.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise-wide fraud strategies, operating models and control frameworks.
  • Credible track record engaging regulators, auditors, Boards, executive committees and senior stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead large-scale fraud transformation and capability build-out initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, data, technology and automation capability.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior decision-making in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Experience leading multi-jurisdictional fraud programmes and specialist teams.
