Experience Level : 4+ years
Working hours : 2pm to 11pm & 3pm to 12am
Job Type : Full-Time
Discovery and planning :
- Inventory on-prem Linux servers (RHEL), applications, dependencies, storage and network flows using tools such as AWS Application Discovery Service or Migration Evaluator.
- Classify workloads by migration strategy (rehost, replatform, refactor, retire) and group them into migration waves.
- Define target-state designs : instance sizing, OS versions, EBS/EFS/FSx storage, VPC placement and security groups.
Migration execution :
- Migrate servers with AWS Application Migration Service (MGN), plus rsync, LVM snapshots or image-based methods where needed.
- Move file shares and data using AWS DataSync, Snowball or S3 transfer as appropriate.
- Upgrade or re-platform legacy OS versions (e.g., RHEL) during migration.
- Plan and run cutovers, including DNS changes, rollback plans and post-migration validation with application owners.
AWS Linux operations :
- Build, patch and maintain Linux on EC2 using AMIs, Systems Manager (Patch Manager, Session Manager, Run Command) and Auto Scaling.
- Manage users, sudo, SSH keys and directory integration (Active Directory / SSSD / AWS Managed Microsoft AD).
- Monitor health and performance with CloudWatch metrics, logs and alarms; tune kernel, memory, disk I/O and network settings.
- Set up backup and DR with AWS Backup, EBS snapshots and cross-region copies; test restores.
Automation and infrastructure as code :
- Provision infrastructure with Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Automate configuration and builds with Ansible, Bash and Python; build golden AMIs with EC2 Image Builder or Packer.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins or CodePipeline) for infrastructure changes.
Security and compliance :
- Apply CIS benchmarks and OS hardening; manage IAM roles and instance profiles on least privilege.
- Encrypt data at rest and in transit (KMS, TLS); manage secrets with Secrets Manager or Parameter Store.
- Support audits with evidence from CloudTrail, AWS Config, Security Hub and Inspector.
Hypercare and handover :
- Provide post-cutover support, resolve incidents and drive root-cause analysis.
- Write runbooks, architecture diagrams and SOPs; hand over to steady-state operations teams.
- Track cost and right-size instances using Cost Explorer and Compute Optimizer.
Required qualifications :
- 4+ years administering enterprise Linux (RHEL/CentOS, Ubuntu, Amazon Linux) in production.
- 2+ years hands-on with AWS : EC2, VPC, EBS, EFS, S3, IAM, Route 53, ELB, CloudWatch and Systems Manager.
- Completed at least one on-prem to AWS migration, including server rehost with AWS MGN or an equivalent tool.
- Strong troubleshooting across boot, kernel, filesystems (LVM, XFS, ext4), networking (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalld/iptables) and performance.
- Scripting in Bash and Python; configuration management with Ansible.
- Infrastructure as code with Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Working knowledge of VMware or other on-prem virtualization as a migration source.
- Experience with Git-based workflows and change management (ITIL, ServiceNow or Jira).
Preferred qualifications :
- AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate or Solutions Architect - Associate (Professional level a plus).
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Engineer (RHCE).
- Familiarity with the AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) and the Well-Architected Framework.
- Exposure to containers (Docker, Amazon ECS or EKS) and serverless services.
- Experience migrating databases or middleware hosted on Linux (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Tomcat, JBoss, Apache, NGINX).
- Hybrid connectivity : Site-to-Site VPN, Direct Connect, Transit Gateway.
- Background in regulated environments (financial services, SOX, PCI DSS).
- Deliver runbooks and a clean handover to operations.
