Duty station: Maputo

Travel: Occasional travel within Maputo as required

Duration and type of contract: 1 year (with possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funds)

Background

Street Child believes that every child deserves the chance to go to school and learn. Our projects focus on a combination of education, child protection and livelihood support to address the social, economic and structural issues that underpin today's education crisis. We partner with local organisations and communities to deliver locally rooted programmes, using evidence to drive learning and continuously improve and scale interventions to maximise impact for the greatest number of children.

Street Child works in some of the world's most challenging contexts, supporting children affected by conflict, displacement, climate shocks and poverty. Through close collaboration with governments, local partners and communities, Street Child seeks to strengthen education systems and create sustainable opportunities for children and young people.

1. Role and Responsibilities

The Administration and Communications Intern will provide administrative, logistical and communications support to Street Child Mozambique. The intern will work closely with programme, operations and management teams to support the efficient functioning of the Country Office while contributing to internal and external communications, documentation and visibility of Street Child's work.

The internship provides an opportunity for a motivated young professional to gain practical experience within an international NGO while developing skills in administration, communications and programme support.

Administrative Support

  • Provide day-to-day administrative support to the Provincial Office.
  • Assist with filing, organising and maintaining electronic and hard copy records.
  • Support scheduling of meetings, preparation of agendas and taking meeting minutes.
  • Assist with travel arrangements, accommodation bookings and logistical preparations for workshops, trainings and meetings.
  • Support procurement and administrative processes in accordance with Street Child procedures.
  • Assist with inventory management and office supplies.
  • Prepare letters, official correspondence and other administrative documents.
  • Support document formatting, proofreading and translation where required.
  • Assist with maintaining organised project documentation and filing systems.

Communications Support

  • Support the development of communication materials highlighting Street Child's programmes and impact.
  • Draft social media content, success stories, case studies and website updates.
  • Assist with taking photographs and collecting content during programme activities and events.
  • Support the preparation of presentations, brochures, newsletters and promotional materials.
  • Ensure communications products are aligned with Street Child branding guidelines.
  • Assist in maintaining photo and communications archives.
  • Support the preparation of donor visibility materials and event documentation.

Programme Support

  • Assist programme teams with organising trainings, workshops and community events.
  • Support data entry and organisation of programme documentation.
  • Assist with preparing reports, presentations and project documents.
  • Support coordination with partners where requested.
  • Undertake other programme support activities as assigned by the supervisor.

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality of organisational and programme information.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and uphold Street Child's values at all times.
  • Comply with Street Child policies, including the Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

2. Competencies

Essential Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree (or currently completing a degree) in Communications, Business Administration, Public Administration, Marketing, Journalism, International Development or another relevant field.
  • Previous internship or volunteer experience is an advantage.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organisational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work to deadlines.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Experience using Canva or other graphic design tools is considered an advantage.
  • Experience managing social media platforms is desirable.
  • Strong written Portuguese is essential.
  • Working knowledge of English is desirable.

3. Performance Management

The intern will be accountable for the responsibilities and competencies outlined in this Job Description and will receive regular supervision and mentoring throughout the internship.
