About the role

The Service Cost Tracker is responsible for providing financial and operational oversight across the service project portfolio throughout the entire project lifecycle. The role partners closely with Service Project Managers and Service Operations Leadership to ensure accurate cost tracking, forecasting, margin management, billing readiness, cash flow visibility, and working capital optimization. You will serve as the primary project controls resource within Service Operations and acts as a business partner to Project Managers by providing transparency into project financial performance, identifying risks and opportunities, and supporting informed operational and commercial decision-making. You will play a key part in improving project profitability, forecasting accuracy, financial discipline, and overall execution performance across maintenance, turnaround, retrofit, revamp, and specialty service projects.

Key Responsibilities

Project Financial Oversight

• Provide project cost control and financial oversight from project initiation through project closeout.
• Partner with Service Project Managers to develop and maintain project budgets, forecasts, Estimate at Completion (EAC), and margin projections.
• Monitor project costs, commitments, accruals, labor expenditures, subcontractor costs, travel costs, and material expenditures.
• Identify cost overruns, productivity concerns, and financial risks.
• Support development and implementation of recovery actions where required.
• Ensure financial visibility throughout the project lifecycle.
• Forecasting & Reporting
• Develop and maintain project financial forecasts and project performance reports.
• Lead monthly project financial reviews with Service Operations leadership.
• Monitor project revenue, gross margin, backlog, cash flow, and working capital performance.
• Develop and maintain project dashboards, KPIs, and management reporting tools.
• Support monthly business reviews and MIS reporting processes.
• Provide leadership with early warning indicators of project performance risks.

Margin & Profitability Management

• Track and analyze project profitability throughout execution.
• Identify margin improvement opportunities and emerging risks.
• Support evaluation of change orders and commercial impacts.
• Review actual performance against estimated costs and budgets.
• Participate in project margin reviews and profitability assessments.
• Recommend actions that improve project financial performance and operational discipline.

Billing & Cash Flow Management

• Support billing readiness and milestone invoicing activities.
• Monitor project cash flow and collection performance.
• Track outstanding receivables and support collection efforts.
• Partner with Finance and Project Managers to improve working capital performance.
• Escalate collection concerns and financial risks that may impact project profitability.
• Support project closeout and final invoicing activities.

Project Controls & Governance

• Establish and maintain project controls standards across Service Operations.
• Develop project reporting methodologies, tools, and performance dashboards.
• Support project setup and maintenance within SAP and other business systems.
• Ensure project financial information is accurate, complete, and timely.
• Participate in project audits and financial reviews.
• Standardize project controls practices throughout the organization.

Cross-Functional Collaboration, Partner with:

• Provide analytical support for project and operational decision making.
• Support project reviews, risk assessments, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Ensure alignment between operational execution and financial objectives.

Operational Excellence

• Develop and maintain project performance dashboards and KPI reporting systems.
• Improve forecasting accuracy and financial visibility across the service portfolio.
• Streamline reporting and project controls processes.
• Support implementation of ERP, reporting, and business intelligence tools.
• Participate in lessons learned reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Promote financial discipline and data-driven decision making across Service Operations.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Business Administration, Project Management, or related discipline preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in project controls, project finance, cost accounting, project management, or related disciplines.
• Strong understanding of project cost control, forecasting, budgeting, margin management, and financial analysis.
• Experience supporting industrial projects, field services, maintenance, construction, manufacturing, or turnaround environments.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication capabilities.
• Experience working with multiple stakeholders in a project environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in refining, petrochemical, chemical, LNG, power generation, or industrial services industries.
• Experience with SAP and project accounting systems.
• Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent reporting platforms.
• Familiarity with revenue recognition and project accounting principles.
• Experience developing project dashboards and KPI reporting systems.
• Understanding of turnaround and field service project environments.
