Head of Finance (m/f/d)

At Superchat, we're rebuilding how businesses talk to their customers. The phone call, the contact form, the support ticket: all of it is being replaced by messaging and AI. We're building the platform that runs underneath.

Founded in 2020, Superchat has become the platform of choice for 10,000+ businesses worldwide, from globally recognized brands like Allianz, Auto1, Enpal, Danone, and GASAG to the small businesses, dental practices, and one-person startups that need to look bigger than they are. Today, millions of messages flow through Superchat every single day.

We started as a unified inbox: one place for every channel a customer might pick, WhatsApp, email, SMS, Instagram. Then ChatGPT happened, and the second chapter began: AI agents that respond across chat, email, and voice at the quality of the best human teams.

We're 100 people, profitable, and have raised  €18M in funding (last round 4.5 years ago, we've been growing on our own money since). Headquartered in Berlin.

In this role you own all of finance at Superchat end to end and report directly to the founders. When the board or our investors have a question about the numbers, you're the one who answers it.

You'll take over our financial model and turn it into something the whole company can steer by. You'll own accounting through to the P&L, run forecasting and liquidity planning, and lead the annual audit.

Who We Want

7+ years of finance experience.

You know the full cycle first-hand, from closing to forecast to board reporting.

Closing and audit expertise.

You independently own monthly and annual closings under HGB, including revenue recognition and accruals, and you coordinate the annual audit with our external auditors through to completed financial statements.

Expert financial modelling.

You build driver-based, integrated three-statement models from scratch and you document them so that others can operate them too.

Forecasting.

You've owned full budget and forecast cycles, you bring together top-down targets and bottom-up input from team leads, and you treat forecast accuracy as a measurable figure that has to improve.

Business partner.

You deliver a reasoned recommendation, not just the numbers and you follow up on whether it gets implemented.

Experience with investors and the board.

You've prepared and presented board materials, and you've been through a financial due diligence - ideally on the company side.

Bridges finance and startup culture. You bring the rigour a finance function demands, while working productively with fast decisions and shifting priorities.

Appetite for automation.

You actively look for ways to take manual work out of the close and the reporting cycle, so the team's time goes into analysis rather than assembly.

Strong communicator.

You translate complex financial data into clear narratives for stakeholders without a finance background, and you're confident in the room with founders, board and investors. Fluent German and English, written and verbal.

Who We Don't Want

Manages the status quo.

You run an inherited function competently, but you don't develop it further.

Reports instead of advising.

You deliver numbers without drawing a recommendation from them, and consider the job done once the report is sent.

Treats the model as personal property.

You build something only you can operate with undocumented logic and manual overrides nobody else can follow. Uncomfortable in front of investors. 

Looking for predictability.

You need stable priorities and permanently fixed responsibilities.

Your Day To Day

Financial Model & Steering (~30%)

• You own and maintain our driver-based financial model documented, operable by others, and reconciled to actuals every month
• You own forecasting, budgeting, liquidity and runway planning, and the management of cash conversion
• You own headcount planning together with the founders, People and team leads
• You evaluate business cases for new products, markets and pricing models, and act as a sparring partner to the founders on strategic decisions

Accounting, Tax & Audit (~30%)

• You own bookkeeping and monthly, quarterly and annual closings under HGB, with clean revenue recognition and accruals
• You coordinate the annual audit with our external auditors end to end, through to completed financial statements
• You manage the relationship with our tax advisors and ensure tax obligations are met
• You own AR, AP and payment processes, and a cost centre structure that scales with the company

KPIs & Business Partnering (~20%)

• You define and monitor the metrics each team steers by - engagement, conversion, retention - as inputs to the model rather than a separate reporting exercise
• You sit in the business reviews, translate numbers into concrete recommendations, and follow up on execution
• You deliver month-end variance analysis and management reporting as a clear, action-oriented narrative rather than a data dump
• You analyse revenue, margin and cost development at customer, product and channel level

Funding & Investor Relations (~20%)

• You build and continuously maintain our data room so we're due-diligence-ready at any time
• You lead the financial due diligence on our side and support the next funding round end to end
• You own investor reporting and communication on a monthly and quarterly cadence, as well as the board reporting packages
• You maintain relationships with investors, banks and financing partners

Founders & Leadership Team: your most important counterpart day-to-day, from annual planning to ongoing prioritisation and the most consequential financial decisions

Team Leads across Sales, Marketing, Product & Customer Success: for KPI definition, budget ownership and business reviews

Board & Investors: for monthly and quarterly reporting, board meetings and funding rounds

External Partners: tax advisors, auditors, banks and financing partners
