Senior Java Developer (12-Month Contract)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer with a minimum of 7 years' experience to join a 12-month contract opportunity within the banking and financial services industry.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, REST APIs, Apache Kafka and relational databases, with experience in legacy system migration, data integration and batch processing.

Previous experience in banking, insurance or financial services is essential, with particular preference for candidates who have worked on commission management systems involving insurance and financial products.

• Analyse legacy system data models and business rules to map and migrate data into new relational structures using Java and Spring Boot.

• Develop and implement batch processing jobs using Spring Batch to support large-volume data transfers and reconciliation.

• Design, develop and maintain Java-based applications using Spring Framework, Spring Data JPA and Microservices architecture.

• Develop and integrate RESTful APIs to support communication between applications, external systems and databases.

• Work with Apache Kafka and Kafka Streams to support data integration and processing.

• Conduct comprehensive user interface testing to ensure ease of navigation and functionality for brokers and administrators.

• Test commission calculations across multiple financial and insurance product types, ensuring accuracy according to broker split percentages and product policies.

• Participate in broker management testing, including adding, editing and removing broker houses, and ensuring data integrity during broker business transfers.

• Test broker accreditation processes, verifying required documentation, certifications and permissions.

• Conduct product and contract management testing to ensure accurate associations between products, broker houses and contracts.

• Participate in integration testing with external systems and databases to verify data consistency and accuracy.

• Conduct security testing to identify and address authentication and authorisation vulnerabilities.

• Perform regression testing following feature enhancements and bug fixes to ensure existing functionality is maintained.

• Verify the accuracy and completeness of user manuals, guides and supporting documentation.

• Utilise Git, Maven and Jenkins for version control, build management and continuous integration.

• Collaborate with development and testing teams within an Agile environment.

Experience and Industry Requirements

• Minimum of 7 years' experience in Java Development.

• Proven experience working within the banking, insurance or financial services industry.

• Experience working on commission-related projects involving insurance and financial products, including broker commissions, commission calculations or commission management systems, is highly advantageous.

• Strong experience in Java, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Spring Data JPA, SQL, REST APIs, Apache Kafka and Microservices.

• Experience with legacy system migration, relational data modelling, data integration and batch processing.

• Experience working in Agile development environments.

Qualifications

• Relevant Degree in Information Technology or a related field.

• Sun Certified Java Certification.
