Data Analytics Engineer - BI Specialist

This is a dashboard-first Data Analytics Engineer role focused on designing and evolving high-impact business intelligence dashboards for enterprise stakeholders. You will turn raw data into intuitive, decision-ready experiences, applying strong UX/UI judgment to choose the best representation for each metric. You will use AI tools as daily accelerators to prototype quickly and make safe changes to SQL and data pipelines, working across a legacy Hadoop/Hive environment and a modern AWS/Databricks platform. The role partners directly with business users from requirements through to adoption.

Responsibilities

• Build, enhance and maintain production Tableau dashboards (and other BI tools as needed) that are fast, intuitive and aligned to business KPIs
• Select appropriate visualizations for each metric and apply sound layout, color and accessibility principles, designing for the viewer's decision
• Use AI-assisted tools to generate wireframes, mock datasets, calculated fields and working prototypes, iterating with stakeholders in short feedback cycles
• Write, tune and review SQL and PySpark with AI-assisted workflows, modifying upstream tables, views and pipelines with proper testing and validation
• Design curated, reusable data models and certified data sources such as star schemas, aggregates and extracts for consistent metric definitions
• Diagnose and resolve slow dashboards through extract optimization, query tuning, calculation refactoring and data-source design, ensuring data freshness and accuracy
• Gather requirements, translate business questions into metrics, run demos and UAT, and drive adoption through training and documentation
• Support migration of reporting workloads from Hadoop/Hive to AWS and Databricks while maintaining continuity for downstream dashboards
• Apply data-quality checks, version control, access controls and dashboard standards in line with security and compliance requirements

Requirements

• 5-7 years of professional experience in BI, analytics engineering or data engineering in production, with significant dashboard development
• Expert-level Tableau (Desktop and Server) including calculated fields, LOD expressions, parameters, actions, performance tuning and publishing/permissions; equivalent Power BI or Looker depth acceptable
• Demonstrated portfolio of production dashboards showing strong layout, visual hierarchy, chart selection and accessibility
• Advanced SQL (window functions, CTEs, complex joins, query tuning) across Hive/Spark SQL and cloud warehouses
• Hands-on use of LLM tools such as Claude or GitHub Copilot to prototype, generate and refactor SQL/Python, with disciplined validation of output
• Python (PySpark), Apache Spark fundamentals and distributed concepts, plus experience with Hadoop/Hive, AWS (S3, IAM, Glue) and Databricks (Delta Lake, SQL warehouses)
• Dimensional data modeling and building BI-ready datasets, Git version control, testing and data validation, and awareness of Airflow or Control-M
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience
