Position Summary
The Data Team Software Engineer designs, develops, deploys, and supports software solutions that enable TARGAN's products, data platforms, and business operations. This role develops cloud-based applications, APIs, integrations, and deployment pipelines while following modern software engineering practices.
The position works across Azure cloud services, containerized applications, databases, messaging platforms, and DevOps tooling. Success in this role requires strong technical proficiency, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders. The ideal candidate takes ownership of deliverables, approaches problems with a structured and analytical mindset, maintains high standards for quality and documentation, and consistently contributes to continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Software Engineering
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software applications and services.
- Participate in requirements gathering, solution design, implementation, and production support.
- Produce high-quality, maintainable, and well-documented code.
- Troubleshoot application defects, performance issues, and operational incidents.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
- Cloud, Data & Integration
- Build and support cloud-native solutions in Azure.
- Develop and maintain APIs, integrations, and database solutions.
- Support containerized and event-driven architectures.
- Monitor and improve application reliability, performance, and scalability.
- Partner with infrastructure and operations teams to ensure secure and reliable deployments.
- DevOps & Continuous Improvement
- Support source control, release management, and CI/CD processes.
- Contribute to automation and operational efficiency initiatives.
- Maintain technical documentation and deployment procedures.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements when appropriate.
Key Competencies & Skills
- Experience designing, developing, testing, and supporting software applications.
- Proficiency with C# and the .NET ecosystem.
- Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure.
- Experience developing and deploying containerized applications using Docker.
- Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
- Working knowledge of SQL and relational database design.
- Experience with source control, CI/CD, and modern software development practices.
- Scripting and automation experience using PowerShell and/or Bash.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Competencies & Skills
- Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric and/or Power BI.
- Experience with PostgreSQL.

- Experience with Agile development methodologies.
- Experience integrating with industrial, IoT, or edge technologies.

Education and Experience Requirements
- Software Engineer II
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 2-4 years of professional software development experience.
- Demonstrated ability to independently deliver assigned projects with minimal supervision.
- Software Engineer III
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical initiatives and delivering solutions from concept through deployment.
- Experience mentoring or guiding other engineers.
- Proven ability to make sound technical decisions with limited oversight.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed inside a flex space building consisting of offices, open desk space, laboratory, machine shop, and a manufacturing floor. Level of noise is usually quiet in the office environment and temperature controlled. Noise levels are elevated in the warehouse space where temperatures can vary depending on the outside elements and weather. Travel may be required, including up to 2-8 trips per year to visit suppliers, attend conferences, meetings (customer, investor, and business) and customer sites (hatcheries).
