Job Description

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CONHS) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Clinical Professor and Program Coordinator for the Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) Program to begin as early as Spring 2027. This is a 9-month academic appointment with a possible summer appointment and will be located at the Corpus Christi campus. Faculty members are required to be physically on campus as needed to contribute to academic mission of the College and University.

Job Description

We are seeking candidates with expertise in Medical Laboratory Science who demonstrate strong teaching and program leadership experience relevant to the program. The coordinator is responsible for maintaining the quality and effectiveness of the MLS program and ensuring compliance with NAACLS standards, sustaining and developing affiliations and educational opportunities with regional healthcare institutions, and providing leadership for continuous program improvement while identifying opportunities to strengthen and advance the program.

Faculty are expected to teach students and model exemplary professional behavior through work with students, peers, administration, and community colleagues and to provide student support including mentoring, advising, and recruiting. Teaching responsibilities include ensuring adherence to program policies, course objectives, program outcomes, and current didactic, laboratory, and clinical education best practices. All faculty are expected to maintain content expertise and to participate in College, University, and professional service activities. Active participation in College and University committees and activities is required.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate MLS lecture and laboratory courses within their areas of expertise and provide leadership for curriculum development, student learning, and program assessment. As Program Coordinator, the successful candidate will oversee accreditation processes, coordinate clinical education and affiliations, contribute to student recruitment and admissions, and monitor student progress and program outcomes. The successful candidate will foster relationships with healthcare organizations and clinical partners, support the development and maintenance of clinical and other experiential learning opportunities, and participate in activities that advance the goals of CONHS and TAMU-CC.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate field (e.g., science, Medical Laboratory Science, or business administration).

  • Current national certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS(ASCP)CM.

  • At least three (3) years of MLS experience, demonstrated leadership experience, and the ability to meet NAACLS qualifications for program directors.

  • Demonstrated capacity to teach core Medical Laboratory Science lecture and laboratory courses, with expertise in one or more areas including microbiology, hematology, immunohematology, and immunology/serology

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D., Ed.D., DCLS, or other relevant doctoral degree. While advanced ABD will be considered, degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.

  • Experience with NAACLS accreditation processes.

  • Experience with distance learning platforms, video conferencing tools, and innovative instructional technologies

  • Demonstrated ability to teach across multiple Medical Laboratory Science content areas.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and with health care organizations and community partners.
