Texas A&M University-Central Texas (TAMUCT) is a growing public university located in Killeen, Texas, in the heart of Central Texas near Fort Hood, Austin, and the Texas Hill Country. TAMUCT is a Hispanic-Serving Institution serving more than 2,400 primarily adult, military-affiliated, first-generation, and transfer students. The Department of Social Sciences is a collaborative, interdisciplinary department offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, Public Administration, Political Science, Sociology, and Anthropology. We invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice beginning Fall 2027.

Position Focus

The Department seeks a scholar-teacher committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate instruction in Criminal Justice and Homeland Security while maintaining an active program of scholarship appropriate to a regional comprehensive university.

We welcome applicants whose expertise complements the strengths of our department and who can contribute to undergraduate and graduate instruction in Criminal Justice while supporting graduate education in Homeland Security.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Criminal Justice and Homeland Security in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats.

  • Contribute to undergraduate and graduate curriculum development and assessment.

  • Maintain an active and productive research agenda.

  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Participate in departmental, college, university, and professional service.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned Ph.D. by the time of appointment in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Homeland Security, Security Studies, Emergency Management, or a closely related discipline.

  • Demonstrated preparation to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Criminal Justice, with the ability to contribute to graduate instruction in Homeland Security.

  • Evidence of scholarly productivity or a developing research agenda.

  • Commitment to high-quality teaching and student success

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to teach multiple areas of the Criminal Justice curriculum.

  • Expertise in homeland security, intelligence, emergency management, policing, corrections, courts, criminology, cybercrime, terrorism, public safety, or related fields.

  • Experience teaching graduate students.

  • Experience with online, hybrid, or technology-enhanced instruction.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in innovative or engaged teaching.

  • Experience working with adult, military-connected, first-generation, transfer, or other diverse student populations.

Salary: Commensurate

Hours: Faculty hours; M-F; hours may vary by assignment
