The Department of Computational, Engineering and Mathematical Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Cyber Engineering Technology (CET) beginning Spring/Summer 2027.

We seek an innovative educator and scholar whose expertise lies at the intersection of electronics, embedded systems, and cybersecurity. The successful candidate will contribute to the continued development of our Cyber Engineering Technology program while fostering strong collaboration with the Department's Electronics Systems Technology (ESET) and Cybersecurity, Computer Science and Mathematics programs as appropriate.

A&M-SA is a fast-growing comprehensive regional university with over 7,500 students. It is part of the statewide Texas A&M University System, A&M-SA is located on 694 acres in south San Antonio and serves a multi-cultural student body, offering academic programs that meet regional needs. The campus, with Mudéjar style buildings and contemporary facilities that leverage technology to enhance the student experience, embraces the spirit of San Antonio’s rich culture. Self-reported demographic data indicate 60% of students are the first generation in their family in college, and 66% women. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Hardware and embedded systems security, including secure hardware architectures, firmware, trusted computing, FPGA security, and hardware-assisted cryptography.

  • Internet of Things (IoT) and edge computing security, including embedded devices, wireless communications, industrial IoT, and secure sensing platforms.

  • Cyber-physical systems and critical infrastructure security, including industrial control systems (ICS), operational technology (OT), smart manufacturing, robotics, transportation, water, energy, and other intelligent infrastructure.

  • Applied cybersecurity for electronic systems, including hardware assurance, secure system design, vulnerability analysis, cyber resilience, and AI-enabled cyber defense.

Applicants with experience integrating cybersecurity principles into electronics, embedded systems, automation, or intelligent infrastructure are especially encouraged to apply.

The Department is committed to preparing graduates who can design, build, secure, and operate modern cyber-enabled engineering systems. The Cyber Engineering Technology program emphasizes applied learning through laboratories, project-based instruction, undergraduate research, industry collaboration, and experiential education. Faculty are encouraged to pursue interdisciplinary research spanning cybersecurity, engineering, artificial intelligence, robotics, intelligent infrastructure, digital twins, and resilient cyber-physical systems.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate courses primarily in cyber engineering technology and electronics systems engineering technology. Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in cybersecurity and computer science as appropriate.

  • Contribute to impactful research and mentoring of both undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Contribute to the service mission of the university.

Required Education and Experience:

    • An earned Ph.D. or Doctor of Engineering in Cyber-Engineering or a related field by the time of the appointment. The candidate’s expertise and experience must focus on the security of hardware, IoT, embedded or cyber-physical systems.

    • Candidates with ABD status will be considered if the requirements for the Ph.D. degree are completed before the appointment begins (degree conferral may happen later).

    • A commitment to teaching excellence, especially at the undergraduate level, using hands-on experiential learning methods.

    • Demonstrated potential of scholarly activity with an ability to secure external funding.

    • Strong written and oral communication skills.

    • An entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on contributing to department and university growth.

    • Demonstration of excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Teaching at the university level (Graduate Teaching Assistant Experience in these areas will also be considered).

Candidates with industrial experience in the hardware aspects of cybersecurity, professional certifications related to cybersecurity and experience developing and teaching laboratory courses using embedded systems, programmable logic controllers and robotics will be given preference.
