GE Vernova is an American energy company created in April 2024 when General Electric split into three, taking the power, wind and electrification businesses. It builds and services gas turbines that generate a substantial share of the world's electricity, onshore and offshore wind turbines, grid equipment including transformers and high-voltage transmission, and nuclear technology through GE Hitachi and its BWRX-300 small modular reactor. Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the company sits at the centre of two simultaneous demand shocks: the electrification of transport and industry, and the electricity requirements of large-scale artificial intelligence data centres.

Job Description Summary

Are you ready to lead a team whose work directly powers some of the world's most demanding industrial and marine operations? Do you thrive on building high-performing engineering teams while staying close to the technology itself?

As Power Electronics Engineering Manager, you'll lead a talented team developing and deploying cutting-edge medium-voltage variable speed drive (VSD) systems for mission-critical applications, from marine propulsion and rolling mills to compressors and other high-performance industrial systems. Your team's designs won't sit on a shelf; they'll be running in some of the most demanding, high-consequence environments in the world.

This is a role for someone who wants both technical depth and people leadership, where you'll shape how projects get delivered, how engineers grow, and how disciplined engineering practices come together to produce real, tangible results for customers around the globe.

If you're energized by solving hard technical problems, developing people, and seeing your team's work drive measurable business impact, this role was built for you.

Job Description

Project & Portfolio Execution

  • Partner closely with Sales, Product Engineering, Manufacturing, and Commissioning teams to deliver seamless, end-to-end project execution.
  • Exercise Engineering Manager approval authority for Technical Risk Assessments (TRA) during the ITO phase.
  • Conduct, propose and approve Design-to-Cost (DTC) analysis for all finalized technical proposals.
  • Provide engineering leadership and ownership for Order-To-Remittance (OTR) execution across VSD projects, driving on-time and on-budget project execution.
  • Champion a process-driven culture through daily management, LEAN principles, and a relentless continuous improvement mindset.
  • Roll up your sleeves to support installation and commissioning activities, including troubleshooting equipment under test and systems already in the field.

Systems & Controls Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership in both software and hardware design reviews, ensuring every solution meets the project requirements as well as rigorous industry standards and pushes the technology forward.
  • Guide and empower engineers in high-stakes technical decision-making across multiple projects and disciplines.
  • Direct the design and optimization of medium-voltage power conversion systems and advanced motor control algorithms (vector control, FOC) for IGBT and thyristor-based converters.
  • Oversee the development of simulation models and real-time digital twins, including RT-LAB-based HIL environments, to push system validation to the next level.

Team Leadership & People Management

  • Lead, coach, and mentor a talented team of direct reports; conduct performance appraisals and skillfully navigate and resolve conflicts.
  • Own the full hiring lifecycle for new engineering talent, from role definition through onboarding, building the team of tomorrow.
  • Cultivate a collaborative, inclusive, and accountable team culture centered on quality, delivery, and continuous growth.
  • Strengthen your team's engineering capability to support both regional execution and broader global collaboration.
  • Foster cross-functional and cross regional synergies with local and global R&D and Engineering Centers of Excellence (CoE) to drive tangible improvements in technical knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned.
  • Shape organizational planning, capability growth strategy, and long-term resourcing, including positioning the team for expansion into exciting adjacent technologies.

Customer & Field Engagement

  • Step in to support customer-facing technical escalations, commissioning, and troubleshooting when it matters most.
  • Travel periodically to some of the world's most demanding industrial sites, including marine vessels, offshore platforms, LNG/liquefaction plants, power generation facilities, and mining operations, to help your team solve complex technical challenges on the ground.
  • Champion an unwavering commitment to health, safety, quality, and regulatory compliance for your customers and your company.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Electrical Drives, Controls, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in variable speed drives, power quality, electrical grid stability, STATCOM or motor control, including applying control theory and system-level design trade studies to real-world challenges.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in Embedded Software and Real-Time Operating System based controllers

Desired Characteristics

  • Prior people-management experience (direct reports, performance reviews, hiring, conflict mediation); you know how to bring out the best in people.
  • Understanding of Mining, Oil and Gas, Marine and Metal processes
  • Proven track record leading engineers, projects, or cross-functional technical initiatives, with accountability for project/program execution (schedule, budget, quality).
  • Strong technical foundation in medium-voltage power electronics, including rectifiers, inverters, active front ends, diode front ends, motor drive systems, and harmonic mitigation filters.
  • Demonstrated expertise in motor control algorithm development (FOC, vector control) and modulation strategies (SVM, PWM, GDPWM).
  • Sharp communication and consensus-building skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive alignment on technical topics.
  • Skilled in structured technical problem-solving methodologies that turn complex issues into clear paths forward.
  • Experience with LEAN principles, daily management systems, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing and real-time simulation platforms such as RT-LAB.
  • Experience commissioning industrial drive systems directly in customer environments.
  • A track record of thriving, not just surviving, in project-driven engineering environments with multiple stakeholders and demanding delivery schedules.
  • Strong aptitude to Self-awareness and Group awareness

Why Join Us?

  • Lead a team applying systems engineering rigor and LEAN, process-driven execution to industry-leading medium-voltage drive technology that powers critical infrastructure worldwide.
  • Shape the long-term growth strategy of your team; your fingerprints will be on what comes next.
  • Collaborate with world-class specialists across power electronics, controls, and electrification in a highly technical, fast-moving environment.
  • Build and develop exceptional engineering talent, and watch your team's designs come to life in some of the most demanding, high-stakes applications on the planet.
