A Glimpse of the Job

The Instructional Designer II leads and supports the development of classroom, hybrid, or online courses for the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning (LAUP). The position plans, develops, and delivers training and development for faculty and/or staff in areas of instructional design, pedagogy, and best practices. It also leads project work. This position may be subject to availability of grant and contract funds.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Education, Educational Technology and Instructional Design or related field.

A well-qualified candidate will have the following:

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Knowledge of online course design principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems and instructional technologies.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.

  • Instructional Design and Educational Technology, Curriculum development.

  • Online course design, Artificial Intelligence and Educational Systems, Large language models, Accessibility, Media Productions, Systems and Infrastructure, and Software Development are also necessary.

Essential Duties/Tasks

Course Design

  • Leads and oversees course design and development projects in LAUP.

  • Administers and maintains online development courses/programs/resources.

  • Plans and coordinates materials with course instructor, instructional design team, and multimedia team. Designs online modules.

  • Leads course review process.

Collaboration

  • Collaborates with LAUP instructors and subject matter experts (SMEs) to design and develop online, blended, and web-enhanced courses and programs.

  • Consults and supports faculty and/or staff with instructional design.

  • Leads faculty and/or staff through the design process and makes key recommendations for design.

Presentations and training

  • Plans, develops, trains, and delivers faculty and/or staff on instructional strategies and course design.

Recommendations

  • Identifies and recommends the use of instructional strategies, technologies, and applications. Researches and reviews emerging instructional design innovations and trends.
