THALES is a top-tier manufacturer of defense and security systems for both public and private sectors. We are looking for a person to take on the role as Bid Manager, being in charge of bid-management activities in Thales Denmark with potential of supporting also other countries in Northern Europe.

Bid Manager at THALES

The Bid Manager is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of a bid or a number of bids for Thales Denmark with initial focus on areas within Networks and Connectivity. The role requires bid management capabilities to be applied, preferably combined with experience from a military background and broad understanding of operational requirements. In the role you will work as part of a commercial team and utilize your operational experience to clarify customer needs and translate those into proposed Thales solutions.

The role is required to bring structure, clarity and governance to the process relating to the program’s bid management activities. It requires the successful management of the relationship with the customer, Thales stakeholders in Denmark and primarily France, third party suppliers as well as the efficient liaison with multi-disciplinary bid teams to deliver high-quality business winning proposals.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

Undertake the activities that will ensure the successful delivery of the bid (or bids). This will typically include (but is not limited to) the following:

  • Bring operational military experience to structure and clarify customer requirements and identify business opportunities and execute bid processes.
  • Manage the preparation of prequalification response submissions to customers with the objective of securing an invitation to bid.
  • Participate in Bid Kick-Off meetings, providing bid management direction and engagement with the Bid Team.
  • Have the overall customer overview on their implementation planning relating to the ongoing program and projects to support the Thales execution and sales.
  • Manage the creation of the bid deliverables and ensuring review and governance, leading to the creation of a high-quality proposal.
  • Work effectively with Capture Leader to generate win themes that link customer needs with defined benefits of the Thales offering.
  • Ensure that cost estimates / target budgets are provided with support of Systems Engineering / Product Management.
  • Ensure that cost estimates are effectively reviewed to ensure competitive and winning pricing.
  • Ensure that effective Gate Business Cases are prepared for specific opportunities.
  • Support the Sales/Capture Lead in any customer negotiations and presentations.

As the Thales Denmark organisation is newly established and still growing, the role will also involve occasional ad-hoc duties that are not listed above, however necessary to respond to the needs of the business.

Working Relationships

The job holder reports to the Country Director.

  • Additional reporting to Program Manager (Thales Denmark) and Offer Director / Bid Manager (Thales France)
  • Interfaces with customers, internal stakeholders in SIX/NIS France, and third-party suppliers.
  • Works with Thales Denmark Country Director and Account Director on a business opportunity specific basis.
  • Has regular liaison with all external and internal stakeholders.
  • Is part of the bid team (France or Denmark) with regular interaction/alignment with team members for coordination, action tracking and facilitating purposes.
  • Has regular liaison with other business functions, including Technical, Finance, Commercial, Legal, Health & Safety, Operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Professional Experience

Skills:

· Ability to link experience from an operational background to identification of customer requirements and identification of business opportunities.

· Bid management skills.

· Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to deal with customers, Thales teams in France and Denmark, suppliers and other parts of the business.

· Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills with written presentation and report writing skills.

· Strong, organisational and team working skills.

· Analytical skills.

· Commercial, financial and business acumen.

· A positive attitude combined with excellent interpersonal and motivational skills.

· An ability to successfully manage change.

· The ability to adapt personal style and communication to achieve the desired results from interactions with team members and stakeholders.

Experience:

· Working in a complex, multidisciplinary, multi-site organization, preferably also within defence.

· Can demonstrate the ability to develop solutions that meet the market needs - both commercially and technically.

· Full business lifecycle management, including capture, qualification and developing capture plans and winning strategies.

· Comprehensive understanding of generic processes and techniques used to schedule bid management activities.

· Comprehensive experience and understanding of the Bid Management process (including Change Control, Risk Management and Information Management).

· Comprehensive experience and knowledge of the bid life cycle

· Experience of working across boundaries, including knowledge of commercial management, finance functions.

Security and language

  • Language: Fluent in Danish and English. French is an advantage, but not required.
  • Security clearance: The candidate must be able to obtain security clearance.
