Forward Deployed Engineer

We are looking for a talented and resourceful Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to join our team at Agency Fund. In this role, you will work directly with our NGO partners across multiple countries to investigate, design, implement, and adapt technology solutions in real-world environments. You will combine software engineering, technical consulting, and problem-solving skills to ensure our technology platforms deliver meaningful impact for users operating in resource-constrained environments.

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement data-driven technology solutions at NGO partner locations across multiple countries.
• Assess, troubleshoot, and organize existing applications and data systems.
• Deploy, configure, and customize Agency Fund technology platforms to improve partner operations.
• Act as the primary technical point of contact for implementation-related challenges.
• Adapt platform features to meet partner-specific workflows and operational requirements.
• Train partner staff on technology platforms and strengthen their technical capabilities.
• Identify product issues and collect structured feedback from field deployments.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to translate field insights into product improvements.
• Document deployment processes, configurations, and implementation learnings.

Requirements:

• 2-5 years of experience in software engineering, data science, or technical consulting.
• Proficiency in at least one backend programming language, such as Python or JavaScript.
• Good understanding of APIs and system integrations.
• Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently in ambiguous and low-connectivity environments.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience training and presenting to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with distributed teams.

Good to Have:

• Experience working in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).
• Familiarity with mobile data collection platforms such as KoboToolbox, CommCare, or ODK.
• Experience with WhatsApp, SMS, or USSD-based systems.
• Knowledge of low-bandwidth technology solutions.
• Familiarity with languages such as Hindi, Swahili, Arabic, or French.
• Background in Global Health, International Development, or Humanitarian Technology.
