What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience. The target hiring range for this position is $25.30 - $31.63. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location & Schedule

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site, as needed. In this position, you can expect to work on-site at the Richard T. Castro Building (1200 N. Federal Blvd.) 3 days (24 working hours) per week. One in-office day must fall on a Wednesday. Staff are permitted to work remotely 2 days (16 working hours) per week. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

The Child Support Services (CSS) Division of Denver Human Services is currently seeking highly skilled applicants for the position of Lead Child Support Technician to work with our dynamic Accounting unit. CSS works with multiple partners to promote parental responsibility so that children receive support from both parents, even when they live in separate households. Child support makes a big difference to children, and we strive to provide family centered services that incorporate innovative strategies that improve the reliability of child support payments. It takes a dedicated team of fiscal professionals to execute these programs with passion, empathy, and poise.

Specifically, as a Lead Child Support Technician with the Accounting unit, you will:

  • Review critical accounting functions related to Child Support Services programs including arrears calculations, processing child support payments, updating financial records, and executing several different financial reports using Microsoft Excel and other software programs. Completes more complex calculations and ledger adjustments for cases
  • Provide on-the-job training and mentor new and tenured employees. Collaborate with the training unit on course content, materials, and case reviews
  • Monitor work activity on accounting processes to ensure that cases are clearly and thoroughly documented. Review and analyze case records and reports for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness. Identify compliance and production problems
  • Assign and distribute work, review work for accuracy and completeness, and return assignments with recommendations for proper completion
  • Resolve problems encountered during daily operations and determine appropriate solutions. Act as a mediator when problems occur between clients and employees
  • Review unit procedures, assist in the development or revision of needed procedures. Recommend and implement process improvements
  • Contribute to the development of the performance enhancement plan, document performance, provide performance feedback, and furnish information for the formal performance evaluation
  • Respond orally to informal grievances and relay information to the supervisor
  • Document situations which may be cause for disciplinary action and provide this information to the supervisor
  • Serve as a role model by leading with intention to cultivate a workplace culture rooted in trust, collaboration, accountability, and respect
  • Holds monthly connection meetings to understand support needs and recognize accomplishment
  • Conduct some monthly quality assurance reviews and staff observations to provide feedback to team members.
  • Collaborate closely with the supervisor to provide team support
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Experience: Five (5) years of experience performing child support initiation, enforcement, collections, investigations, case management or a related field.
  • Education & Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
