What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience. New hires are typically brought into the organization between $125,000 - $165,000/year. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location & Schedule

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

In this position you can expect to work on site at least 3 days per week at our DEN JAG Building (26100 E. 68th Ave. Suite 240, Aurora, CO 80019) and project locations on the DEN campus and properties.

Denver International Airport (DEN) is seeking an Engineering Supervisor to lead the Landside Infrastructure Team of DEN’s Design, Engineering and Construction Division (DEC). This division is the primary delivery arm for design and construction projects at DEN. The infrastructure group within DEC manages over $325 million worth of design and construction projects including new and existing roadways, runways, taxiways, and utilities infrastructure focusing on sustainability, total-cost of ownership, and excellence in design. DEC is approaching these with a renewed focus on constructing and rehabilitating civil and utility infrastructure to ensure operational continuity, reliability, optimization, and efficiency.We are looking for an interdisciplinary Landside Engineering Supervisor who brings a depth and breadth of technical proficiency; critical problem solving, communication and facilitation; financial acumen; stewardship; and an ability to invest in the success of project managers and engineers who represent the infrastructure projects team.This supervisor will oversee various project managers and engineers who have responsibility to define, design, build, and turnover infrastructure projects at DEN.

In this role you will have the opportunity to apply your civil infrastructure design and construction expertise, as well as your leadership and interpersonal abilities. Our supervisors play a key role in accomplishing the goals of the group by leading staff, developing effective engineering standards, establishing section and project objectives, and evaluating the effectiveness of program delivery methods and procedures.This supervisor also implements and evaluates engineering plans, work processes, systems, and procedures to support the overall delivery of infrastructure projects as part of the greaterDECteam. This role will contribute to the creation of annual goals andobjectives, and various budgetary and resource allocation decisions.

Typical infrastructure design and construction discipline related work for this group includes:

  • Annual roadway and parking lot rehabilitations.

  • New capital improvement projects such as roadways, wet/dry utilities, and parking lots.

  • Infrastructure asset condition assessments and analyses.

  • Outside agency referral reviews.

Specifically, as the Engineering Supervisor, you will:

  • Direct and evaluate the work of professional engineers, and associated personnel, provide technical expertise to staff, and establish section and staff work programs and project objectives.

  • Supervise the project life cycle activities completed by staff related to all define, design, build, and closeout phases for infrastructure projects.

  • Participate and contribute to revisions to the department’s engineering or architectural standards, monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of program delivery methods and procedures, and recommend/execute policy/procedure revisions.

  • Work with the Project Management Office (PMO) group to establish conceptual design cost estimates and construction schedules considering operational constraints, project specifications, and regulatory requirements.

  • Lead various stakeholder coordination and engagement efforts for infrastructure projects with DEN stakeholders from other divisions and sections, and contribute to or present at external stakeholder events and meetings.

  • Assist in developing and managing the budget for the unit/section and allocating funds for O&M projects to accomplish yearly goals and objectives.

  • Assign and distribute work, review work for accuracy and completeness, and return assignments with recommendations for proper completion.

  • Develop goals, document performance, provide performance feedback and formally evaluate the work of direct reports; provide reward and recognition for proper and efficient performance; and assist staff to achieve performance standards and identify opportunities for continual improvement to performance standards.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring

Ourideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Five (5) or more years of experience delivering civil infrastructure design and construction projects, including roadways, parking lots, bridges, and utility infrastructure.

  • Experience with asphalt and concrete pavement design, rehabilitation, and construction.

  • Knowledge of CDOT design standards, specifications, and transportation infrastructure best practices.

  • Experience supervising engineers, project managers, consultants, or matrix-managed teams while developing staff and fostering collaboration.

  • Experience delivering projects through a variety of project delivery methods, including Design-Bid-Build and alternative delivery approaches.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, navigate complex stakeholder environments, and make effective decisions in dynamic and ambiguous situations.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Architecture.

  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of senior engineering or architecture experience.

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements.

  • Licenses/Certifications:

    • Requires registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers at the time of application. Or requires registration as an Architect by the Colorado State Board of Registration at the time of application. Registration in another state will be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado registration at completion of probation.

    • Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.

    • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.

Additional Information

FBI Background Check: FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.

Snow/Emergency Duties: Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees can be required to work extended hours and/or shifts.
