The Exploration Company is a Munich based European company founded in 2021 that is developing the Nyx reusable space capsule. Its spacecraft is designed to carry cargo and eventually crew to orbital stations, with a modular architecture and green propulsion. The company has flown demonstration missions and raised one of Europe's largest space funding rounds.

Here at The Exploration Company, we are building innovative aerospace technologies that advance the future of space transportation.

We want you as a talented systems engineer to help us in our mission by leading the integration and certification process for the Nyx missions to the International Space Station (ISS), ensuring compliance with NASA's requirements and standards.

You will oversee all aspects of the process from development of the certification plan to final certification, ensuring that NYX spacecraft design and operations meet NASA’s rigorous interface, safety, operations and verification requirements.

Key Responsibilities

In your capacity as the ISS Integration & Certification Senior Engineer, your role will continuously evolve, but you will be responsible for leading all aspects of integration and certification of the Nyx spacecraft for missions to the ISS. This role demands a strong blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and experience in the aerospace industry to ensure the integration process is completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

  • Coordinate the end-to-end integration and certification process for the Nyx Earth missions to the ISS, including development and management of the certification plan, ensuring alignment with NASA requirements and Nyx project milestones and schedules

  • Coordinate with NASA and ESA for all matters related to ISS integration and certification. Coordinate NASA and ESA participation in major Nyx life cycle reviews

  • In collaboration with the Nyx Engineering team, implement the Nyx/ISS Bilateral Integration and Verification Plan, including related joint activities and data item deliverables associated with ISS certification.

  • Support the Nyx Safety process and safety reviews, including hazard control development and verification

  • In collaboration with the Nyx Engineering team, track execution of Nyx verification and validation activities, particularly items of verification and validation associated with ISS requirements. Coordinate verification and validation reports and Nyx verification closure within NASA, ESA, and TEC tools and processes

  • Support Nyx preparation for key joint ISS reviews including the Post-Qualification Review, ISS Integration/Vehicle Acceptance Review, Stage Operations Readiness Review and Flight Readiness Review

  • Assess and manage risk associated with spacecraft design, operations and integration with ISS, develop and execute risk mitigation strategies and track risk mitigation actions

What we would love to see from you

  • Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, aerospace engineering, or another related field

  • 5 to 10 years of experience working in aerospace systems engineering with at least 3 years in ISS Visiting Vehicle integration, operations and/or certification being highly valued

  • Knowledge of general spacecraft systems engineering, safety and operations products and processes

  • Ability to integrate diverse inputs on complex technical topics and synthesize solutions and forward plans that address stakeholder needs
