Base salary will be in the range $106,293.57 - $113,659.72 + 17% super (Academic Level A) or $119,462.94 - $141,545.09 + 17% super (Academic Level B)

About This Opportunity
Join a visionary and collaborative statistical genomics research environment led by Professor Loic Yengo. This opportunity is designed for an ambitious researcher seeking to establish an independent research program and transition towards leading their own laboratory within the next five years.
Working within a supportive and inclusive team, you will contribute to globally relevant research that advances understanding of complex traits and diseases through innovative statistical genetics methodologies, while helping create meaningful change through discovery, translation and impact.
This position is being offered at either Academic Level A or Academic Level B, depending on the successful candidate's experience, track record and demonstrated research leadership.
We welcome applications from outstanding recent PhD graduates as well as candidates with postdoctoral experience who are seeking to establish or further develop an independent research profile.
Key responsibilities will include:
Research: Produce high-quality research outputs including peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, software tools, and competitive research funding applications, while contributing to the translation and impact of research outcomes.
Supervision and Researcher Development: Contribute to the supervision and mentoring of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, while fostering capability development and supporting a positive research culture.
Citizenship and Service: Develop collaborative partnerships, contribute to internal service activities and committees, support colleagues, and uphold University values through leadership, professionalism and engagement.
Additional for level B:
Research: Lead or contribute to the development of innovative statistical methods for analysing large-scale genomic and single-cell omics datasets, identifying causal genetic variation, and improving phenotype prediction and gene prioritisation across genetically diverse populations.
Funding: Lead competitive research funding applications such as research grants and fellowships.

About You
You will demonstrate some or all of the following:
A PhD in Statistical Genetics, Quantitative Genetics, Computational Biology, Statistics, Data Science or a closely related discipline.
Knowledge of genetics and genomics and a passion for applying quantitative approaches to biological and medical research questions.
Strong expertise in (Bayesian) statistics and data science
Experience with mathematical modelling (e.g., linear algebra, linear models methodologies)
Demonstrated programming skills in C/C++, Python, R or comparable languages.
Experience with AI-based coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor.
Evidence of research productivity through publications, presentations or research outputs appropriate to career stage.
Excellent communication, collaboration, organisational and problem-solving skills.
The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary research environment.
Experience with quantitative genetics, Bayesian methods, machine learning, large-scale genomic datasets, single-cell omics or integrative omics analyses would be highly regarded if the candidate was not initially trained in those disciplines.
For appointment at Academic Level B, candidates will additionally demonstrate:
A developing track record of research leadership and increasing national or international recognition.
Experience contributing to or leading competitive research funding applications.
Experience supervising or mentoring research students and/or junior researchers.
Evidence of establishing collaborative research partnerships and contributing to broader research impact.
