General Notes

Supervise and coordinate the daily operations, maintenance, and repair of grounds and landscape equipment, including outdoor power tools, vehicles, and heavy machinery, to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable grounds operations. Provide leadership and direction to staff, coordinate work assignments and priorities, monitor equipment condition and maintenance needs, and ensure work is completed in accordance with university standards, safety requirements, and operational goals

Purpose

Oversees the operation, maintenance, repair, and overall readiness of grounds

and landscape equipment. Provides direction and supervision for equipment operations, maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance activities. Coordinates staff, work assignments, equipment resources, and operational priorities to ensure safe, efficient, and effective grounds maintenance operations. May operate a wide range of landscape equipment and heavy machinery as needed to support unit operations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee equipment maintenance and repairs, including preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and service of outdoor power equipment.
  • Operate and supervise the operation of heavy grounds and landscape equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Supervise the upkeep of facilities, work areas, storage yards, and departmental spaces toensure a safe and organized environment.
  • Complete and oversee administrative documentation, including timecards, work orders, training records, and labor reporting.
  • Perform other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED. Two years of supervisory experience. Five years of experience in small-engine repair and light mechanical work. Five years of experience operating heavy equipment. Experience operating outdoor power equipment. Experience with vehicle and equipment maintenance tracking. Credentials in equipment or vehicle mechanics. Basic computer knowledge and familiarity with standard workplace software. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Two-year college degree or vocational/technical certification in light mechanics, heavy equipment operation, or small-engine repair. ASE certification. Knowledge of basic welding techniques. Certifications or licenses for equipment operation (such as backhoe, skid steer, or forklift). Commercial Driver's License (CDL). OSHA safety certifications. Experience working on a university or institutional campus.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$56,000 + depending on qualifications
