Position Summary

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is seeking a Manager,Quality Engineering & Release to build and own our automated quality engineering capability and the release gate that capability makes possible.

This is a hands-on build role for an experienced quality engineering professional who can establish automated testing from the ground up, define risk-based quality standards, and ensure releases meet clear readiness criteria before deployment.

The Quality Engineering & Release Manager will design and implement the automated test framework, establish testing and regression strategies, and own release readiness, change control, release documentation, and post-release verification. The role will also serve as an escalation point for production issues and drive continuous improvement across quality and release practices.

Success in this role requires strong technical expertise, sound risk-based judgment, and the ability to make and hold go/no-go release decisions. You will partner closely with Engineering, Product, the Scrum Master, and other stakeholders to ensure quality and release readiness are considered throughout the development lifecycle.

Work Arrangement

This is a hybrid position based in Lake Mary, Florida.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and own the automated test framework from the ground up, including framework selection, initial test development, full end-to-end regression testing, CI integration, and adoption across Engineering.
• Establish risk-based test coverage standards and determine what should be automated, remain manual, or not require testing.
• Own the Definition of Done, sprint exit criteria, regression strategy, test data strategy, and test environment strategy.
• Shift quality earlier in the development lifecycle by reviewing acceptance criteria before work begins rather than relying solely on testing after development is complete.
• Own release readiness criteria, facilitate go/no-go discussions, and make release decisions in partnership with technical leadership.
• Own change control end to end, including change records, approvals, audit trails, and record integrity.
• Own release notes, rollback criteria, and post-release verification.
• Partner with Engineering on deployments. Engineering owns pipelines and infrastructure; this role owns whether established quality and release-readiness criteria have been met for deployment to proceed.
• Serve as an escalation tier for production issues, owning diagnosis, root-cause analysis, and coordination through resolution.
• Establish defect triage standards, severity definitions, and response expectations.
• Ensure production defects result in appropriate regression tests and, when warranted, improvements to the release gate.
• Partner with the Scrum Master and Product on planning, refinement, and flow, representing quality and release readiness throughout sprint activities.
• Act as a liaison between Engineering teams and stakeholders, clearly communicating quality, test coverage, release readiness, risks, and delays.
• Continuously evaluate and improve quality engineering and release-management practices.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience building a test automation practice from the ground up and driving team adoption.
• Experience owning release management in a sprint-based environment, including change control in an audited or regulated context.
• Demonstrated judgment and authority to make and hold go/no-go release decisions.
• Hands-on experience designing and maintaining automated testing, including end-to-end regression testing.
• Experience integrating automated tests into continuous integration workflows.
• Strong knowledge of test coverage, regression testing, test data, test environments, defect triage, root-cause analysis, and release-readiness practices.
• Ability to assess risk, diagnose complex production and quality issues, make release-readiness decisions with incomplete information, and determine practical corrective actions.
• Ability to explain technical quality and coverage decisions to engineers and communicate release impacts clearly to executives and other stakeholders.
• Ability to serve as an effective liaison between Engineering teams and stakeholders.
• Professional/business proficiency in English with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to technical, stakeholder, and executive audiences.
• Strong ability to work effectively in a computerized technology environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Jira and Confluence as systems of record.
• Experience with performance, security, or accessibility testing.
