Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Applied Scientist II to join our Document AI team. In this role, you will drive innovation in document intelligence by developing advanced AI solutions for document classification, information extraction, reasoning, and automation. You will lead applied research initiatives focused on Large Language Models (LLMs), benchmarking, grounding, AI agents, and reasoning enhancement to solve complex real-world business challenges.

As a senior member of the team, you will work closely with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to transform cutting-edge research into scalable, production-ready solutions while mentoring junior scientists and contributing to the organization's AI thought leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the research, design, and development of innovative AI capabilities for Document AI solutions, including document classification, information extraction, and advanced reasoning.
• Drive applied research initiatives in areas such as LLM benchmarking, grounding, agent-based systems, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and reasoning improvement.
• Design, build, evaluate, and deploy state-of-the-art NLP, Information Retrieval (IR), and document processing models for real-world applications.
• Collaborate with engineering teams, product managers, and business stakeholders to translate complex business challenges into impactful AI-driven solutions.
• Develop scalable, production-quality AI systems and ensure best practices in software engineering, experimentation, and model deployment.
• Mentor and guide junior scientists and researchers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
• Communicate research findings, technical recommendations, and project outcomes to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Contribute to intellectual property development through patents, technical publications, and conference presentations.
• Stay current with advancements in AI, machine learning, NLP, and LLM technologies, bringing innovative ideas into the product development lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Information Retrieval, or a related field; OR a Master's degree with equivalent industry experience.
• 7 to 10 years of hands-on experience developing and deploying NLP, Information Retrieval, Document AI, or Intelligent Document Processing solutions in commercial environments.
• Strong experience building AI-powered applications using Large Language Models (LLMs) and modern machine learning techniques.
• Proven expertise in solving complex business problems through applied AI research and production-grade implementations.
• Strong software engineering skills with experience writing, testing, and deploying high-quality production code.
• Experience leading technical initiatives and influencing outcomes through cross-functional collaboration.
• Demonstrated success in mentoring team members and driving technical excellence within research or applied science teams.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working in agile environments and collaborating effectively with Product, Engineering, and business teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Publications in leading AI, NLP, Machine Learning, or Information Retrieval conferences, including ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, NeurIPS, ICLR, SIGIR, KDD, or similar venues.
• Experience with LLM evaluation frameworks, AI agents, grounding techniques, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and reasoning optimization.
• Track record of patents, research contributions, or industry-recognized innovations in AI and machine learning.
• Experience deploying large-scale AI systems in cloud environments and optimizing models for enterprise applications.
• Strong understanding of emerging trends in Generative AI, foundation models, and advanced document intelligence technologies.
• Experience leading end-to-end research programs from ideation through production deployment.
