Software Engineer

This role reports to the Engineering Manager.

Job Overview:

To lead the design, development and enhancement of business-critical applications, providing technical guidance and mentorship to the engineering team. You will be a key player In driving our technical strategy and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and robust software solutions.

A critical focus of this role will be the ability to quickly mater, navigate and maintain existing legacy codebases, systematically Improving their stability and performance. You will be expected to champion a culture of technical excellence, setting an uncompromisingly high standard for clean code, thorough documentation, and the development of secure, optimized and robust RESTful APIs.

Your work life:

• End to end SDLC Ownership: Lead and own the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), managing everything from technical design and hands-on development to testing, deployment, and end-user support.
• Agile Integration: Actively participate in and champion Agile/Scrum methodologies, leading project planning, sprint estimation, and delivery execution to ensure high-quality software is shipped predictably.
• Database & API Design: Drive the architectural design of relational database structures and scalable RESTful APIs; hands-on experience or familiarity with the TM Forum (TMF) API domain, standards, and design practices is considered a distinct and valuable advantage.
• API Documentation: Oversee and maintain precise, clear, and up-to-date API documentation using modern design tools, ensuring seamless integration for both internal and external stakeholders.
• Code Quality Assurance & Unit Testing: Set and enforce unyielding standards for software quality by executing strict code reviews, establishing testing strategies, and writing comprehensive unit tests using frameworks.
• Secure Programming: Embed secure coding and programming principles directly into the development workflow, proactively addressing vulnerability mitigation, input validation, authentication, and authorization protocols.
• Mentorship & Culture: Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers, fostering an environment of continuous learning, technical excellence, and clean-code practices.
• Legacy Modernization & Tech Debt Management: Troubleshoot, profile, and systematically refactor legacy codebases. You will balance the delivery of new features with the reduction of technical debt, ensuring older systems are safely optimized or migrated without disrupting live business operations.
• System Observability & Performance Tuning: Proactively monitor and optimize application health using modern logging and observability stacks (such as Grafana or ELK). You will lead root-cause analysis for complex production incidents and implement JVM or database tuning to guarantee high system availability.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration & Translation: Act as the technical bridge between business requirements and technical execution. You will collaborate closely with product owners, project managers, and cross-functional infrastructure teams to translate complex business logic into sound, future-proof architectural concepts.
• CI/CD & Automation Advocacy: Champion a DevOps mindset within the team by identifying opportunities to automate repetitive tasks, improve local development tooling, and optimize CI/CD deployment pipelines to streamline software delivery.

To be considered, you'll need:

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of solid, hands-on backend development experience predominantly utilizing Java and the Spring Boot framework.
• Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent technical discipline.
• SoftwareFundamentals: Deep, practical command of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and SOLID design principles.
• EcosystemTools: Proficiency with dependency management tools (Maven or Gradle), version control (Git), and navigating Unix/Linux (*nix) environments.
• Git&GitLabExpertise: Proven, hands-on practical experience using Git version control and managing workflows within GitLab (including branching, merging, conflict resolution, and merge request management)
• ORM Frameworks: Deep practical experience with enterprise mapping frameworks such as JPA with Hibernate, or MyBatis.
• Database Proficiency: Strong background in relational database design, data modeling, and query implementation specifically within MySQL and PostgreSQL environments.
• Microservices Architecture: Solid understanding of distributed systems design patterns, including API Gateways, service meshes, and circuit breakers
• Testing Frameworks: Practical familiarity with unit testing frameworks and mocking libraries (e.g., JUnit, Mockito)

What Will Make You Stand Out:

• API Domain Advantage: Direct familiarity or hands-on experience with TM Forum (TMF) API standards and domains is highly advantageous.
• Legacy Optimization: Proven track record in JVM tuning, garbage collector optimization, and performance profiling of heavy backend systems.
• Containerization: Hands-on experience using Docker for local application development, packaging, and deployment workflows.
• Frontend Basics: A foundational understanding of frontend development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), with any experience in modern frameworks (Nuxt.js, Vue) being a major plus.

Nice to Have (Preferred Qualifications):

• Experience leading technical teams and projects.
• Experience working with Cloud platforms (AWS, or GCP)
• Experience with NoSQL solutions (MongoDB, Redis, AWS DynamoDB).
• Exposure to HashiCorp Vault & Consul architectures.
• Knowledge of message queues and streaming data platforms
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability suites (e.g., ELK stack, Grafana).
• Knowledge of locking mechanisms and distributed locking strategies.

What success looks like:

• Within the first 90 to 180 days, you will have successfully integrated into the engineering team, mastered the core application architectures, and elevated code delivery standards. Success is defined by:
• Legacy Code Mastery: Successfully navigating, profiling, and stabilizing assigned legacy codebases, demonstrating a systematic reduction in technical debt without disrupting live business operations.
• API & Design Excellence: Designing and deploying secure, highly scalable RESTful APIs that set a benchmark for clean architecture, robust database structure, and alignment with modern standards (including TM Forum API domains where applicable).
• Git & GitLab Workflow Discipline: Consistently practicing clean branch management, driving high-quality collaboration through GitLab Merge Requests, and executing rigorous peer code reviews.
• Testing & Quality Benchmarks: Writing comprehensive unit tests using JUnit and Mockito for all new and refactored code, ensuring high test coverage and minimizing regression bugs escaping into production.
• Comprehensive Documentation: Maintaining clear, precise, and up-to-date API documentation so that internal and external engineering teams can integrate seamlessly without friction.
