Exploration Geologist

Our Client in the mineral sector is looking to hire Exploration Geologists who will assist in their projects in Solwezi and Kasempa. The Exploration Geologist will join the field-based geological team, contributing to a range of exploration activities including geological and geotechnical core logging, core sampling and sample preparation. The role will also involve maintaining accurate geological databases, utilising industry software, reviewing geological data and documentation, and supporting robust quality control of drilling records.

Key Responsibilities

• Geological and geotechnical core logging
• Drillhole collar positioning and support during drill rig setup
• Core sampling and preparation of samples for laboratory analysis
• Maintaining and updating field geological databases
• Working with MX Deposit, QGIS and AXIS Connect
• Reviewing, verifying and consolidating geological data and documentation prepared by junior geologists and contractors
• Supporting quality control of field records, drilling data and exploration materials
• Conduct field studies and surveys to collect geological samples and data.
• Analyze geological data using specialized software and tools.
• Interpret geological data to identify potential resource deposits.
• Develop geological models and maps for exploration projects.
• Collaborate with drilling teams to provide geological guidance.
• Prepare and present reports on geological findings.
• Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations during exploration activities.
• Evaluate the economic feasibility of mining sites based on geological data.
• Use remote sensing and GIS technology for geological mapping.
• Monitor and assess drilling and sampling activities.
• Advise on best practices for resource extraction and site rehabilitation.
• Stay updated with the latest geological research and exploration techniques.

Requirements

• Bachelors Degree in Geology or a related discipline
• 3 years of work experience in a similar role with practical experience in drill core logging.
• Previous experience in mineral, oil, or gas exploration is preferred
• Proficiency in GIS, geological modelling software, and geochemical data interpretation.
• Willingness to travel and work on a rotational roster at remote exploration sites
• Strong attention to detail and a responsible approach to geological data
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary and multicultural team
• Motivated to learn, develop professionally and grow with the company as a qualified exploration specialist
• Membership with professional geological societies.
• Possession of valid drivers license
