Job Description

About the role:

At Takeda, we are guided by our purpose of Better Health for People, Brighter Future for the World and our commitment to patients, our people and the planet. As we continue to evolve our portfolio through acquisitions, partnerships, and divestitures, the ability to transition and integrate assets seamlessly is essential to delivering on our commitments to patients, regulators, and partners.

We are seeking a Director to join the R&D Asset Transition & Integration Office (RATIO), the function responsible for executing R&D asset transitions across integrations, in-licensing, asset wind-downs, divestments, and externalizations. In this role you will lead a team of transition professionals, hold accountability for a portfolio of live transitions, primarily asset wind-downs, and drive the digitization and process optimization agenda that makes each transition faster and more predictable than the last. You may also lead transitions of your own depending on volume and complexity of work.

You will operate at the intersection of science, operations, and strategy-building the capability as well as running it, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and data integrity.

How you will contribute:

As a leader within RATIO, you will:

  • Lead and develop a team of transition professionals; set objectives, allocate assignments across the book of work, and manage performance, capability and career development

  • Hold accountability for a portfolio of live transitions, ensuring budgets, schedules and performance standards are realistically set and attained; lean into more complex or sensitive transitions

  • Own and/or support the design and implementation of a digitized, data-driven transition processes

  • Drive and/or support process optimization across transition archetypes: standardized playbooks, templates and process maps, defined KPIs, and a continuous improvement cycle informed by structured lessons learned

  • Govern the operating model, ways of working, and operational agreements between RATIO and the functions it depends on

  • Provide strategic insight to senior leadership, including portfolio-level status, risk assessment, and resourcing plans

  • Support build of organizational capability through training curricula, knowledge management, and the development of less experienced colleagues

  • Ensure compliance and integrity across the portfolio, including contractual obligations, regulatory requirements, safety commitments, and data governance

What Makes This Role Unique:

This role is part of an innovative capability that is leading across the pharma industry. Accordingly, you'll be close to some of the most complex and high-impact work in R&D. You will:

  • Shape how Takeda executes asset transitions and RATIO shows up as a brand

  • Lead a team while remaining hands-on with priority transitions

  • Work across the full breadth of R&D functions rather than within a single discipline

  • Modernize a capability with current technology and people capabilities and real latitude to design the future state

  • Represent Takeda to external partners and counterparties at senior level

Success in this role requires someone who has a learning mindset, balances operational rigor with judgement, builds capability in others, and drives alignment across a highly matrixed, global environment.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in a scientific or related field required; advanced degree welcomed

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, particularly in R&D strategy and operations and/or program management

  • Demonstrated people management experience, including direct line management

  • Demonstrated delivery in global matrix environments

  • Experience working with external counterparties-partners,licensors, CROs, or vendors

  • Fluent English at a level suitable for global governance forums

  • Working knowledge of R&D processes, such as clinical development, regulatory, safety, and quality systems

  • Track record of strong project management and leading complex, cross-functional programs to completion with external counterparties

  • Demonstrated people leadership (e.g., building, developing and retaining a high-performing team)

  • Experience designing and implementing improved processes or digital tooling in a regulated environment, with measurable outcomes

  • Understanding of data and records management, such as regulatory data transfer, system transitions, and archival strategies

  • Familiarity with global R&D systems and infrastructure, and how they interact during transitions

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to drive a collaborative environment

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive progress, even in highly complex environments

Preferred:

  • Experience in any of the following: R&D alliance management, Business Development (e.g., M&A integration, divestment, in-licensing), asset termination, or Life Sciences Strategy or Management Consulting

  • Experience deploying project and portfolio management platforms (e.g., Planisware), business intelligence and dashboard tooling (e.g., Power BI), workflow automation, or AI-enabled ways of working

  • Process excellence credentials or equivalent practical experience

  • Contract literacy

  • Budget forecasting, tracking and closeout for program spend

  • Experience working across cultures and time zones
