Team Overview
The Research & Consulting team serves as a strategic thought leadership function within TransUnion's Financial Services business. The team develops market-leading research and analytics that help lenders understand consumer behavior, emerging risks, and growth opportunities, while strengthening TransUnion's position as a trusted advisor in the marketplace. This role reports to the Senior Director, Research & Consulting. This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.Role Overview And Core Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of advanced consumer lending research initiatives that identify market trends, consumer behavior patterns, and emerging risk and growth opportunities for lenders.
- Translate research findings and data-driven insights into actionable business strategies that support customer decision-making and drive revenue-generating opportunities.
- Serve as a recognized subject matter expert on consumer credit, lending practices, risk management, and financial services trends across the customer lifecycle.
- Partner with Sales and client-facing teams to elevate customer conversations, provide industry expertise, and support complex solution discussions with executive-level stakeholders.
- Represent TransUnion at industry conferences, customer events, advisory boards, and media engagements to strengthen the company's thought leadership presence and market credibility.
- Author research reports, white papers, articles, and industry publications that communicate market insights and reinforce TransUnion's leadership position.
- Lead the creation and management of customer advisory boards, facilitating strategic discussions with senior lending executives regarding industry trends, product innovation, and research priorities.
- Educate sales and business teams on lending concepts, regulatory developments, economic factors, risk strategies, and consumer credit trends to enhance consultative selling capabilities.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with customers by providing strategic guidance, industry expertise, and consultative support on critical business challenges.
- Monitor industry developments, competitive offerings, and regulatory changes to inform internal stakeholders and customers of emerging opportunities and risks.
Required Knowledge And Experiences
- 10+ years of experience in financial services, retail banking, lending, risk management, consulting, or related industries, with demonstrated expertise in consumer credit and lending operations.
- Extensive knowledge of consumer lending products, credit risk practices, customer lifecycle management, and the application of credit data solutions to business challenges.
- Experience designing and leading quantitative research initiatives, including study design, data analysis, interpretation of findings, and executive-level presentation of results.
- Advanced understanding of economic, regulatory, and market factors that influence consumer lending behavior and financial institution performance.
- Master's degree or higher in Economics, Statistics, Finance, Operations Research, Banking, or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven ability to lead complex cross-functional initiatives and influence senior stakeholders without direct reporting authority.
Required Technical Skills
- Advanced data analysis and research methodologies, including statistical analysis and insight generation from large and complex datasets.
- SQL (Structured Query Language) for data extraction, manipulation, and analysis.
- Experience with analytical tools such as R, Python, SAS, or similar statistical platforms.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word for analysis, storytelling, and executive communication.
- Strong data visualization and presentation capabilities to communicate complex findings to both technical and executive audiences.
