Team Overview

The Senior Director, Marketing - Africa is a strategic, commercially driven leader responsible for shaping and executing an integrated, data-led Marketing and Corporate Communications agenda, with a primary focus on B2B growth that directly drives revenue growth, market expansion, and brand leadership across the region, while aligning regional priorities with TransUnion’s enterprise marketing strategy and global growth objectives.

This role operates as a core member of the Africa executive leadership team (ExCo), influencing enterprise strategy and advocating for marketing as a growth engine. The role requires a forward-thinking leader with deep expertise in Account-Based Marketing (ABM), AI-enabled marketing, and full-funnel demand generation, capable of securing investment, driving prioritization, and delivering measurable business impact.

The Senior Director owns the Africa marketing budget, leads regional strategy aligned to global priorities, and ensures marketing is tightly integrated with sales, products, and strategy to accelerate pipeline, revenue, and customer value.

This role reflects a predominantly B2B organization (c.98%), requiring deep expertise in enterprise marketing, account-based engagement, and stakeholder-led communications across complex markets. This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.

Role Overview And Core Responsibilities

  • Extensive senior leadership experience (12+ years) in enterprise B2B marketing within data, technology, or analytics-driven businesses, ideally operating across multiple markets
  • Proven track record of operating at ExCo or equivalent level, influencing strategy, investment, and business outcomes
  • Deep expertise in:
    • Account-Based Marketing (ABM)
    • Revenue marketing and pipeline generation
    • AI-driven and data-led marketing strategies
  • Strong commercial acumen, with demonstrated ownership of marketing budgets and ROI accountability
  • Experience building and leading high-performing, modern marketing teams
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a global matrix organization
  • Expertise across full-funnel marketing, including demand generation, brand, digital, content, PR, and events
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior executives and cross-functional leaders
  • Demonstrated ability to translate market insights into actionable growth strategies
  • Excellent communication and executive presence, including media and board-level engagement
  • Education: Degree in Marketing, Business, or related field (MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred)

Required Knowledge And Experiences

Executive Leadership & Influence:

  • Acts as a trusted advisor to the Africa CEO and ExCo, shaping business priorities and advocating for marketing-led growth.
  • Leverages strong commercial acumen and data-driven insight to influence budget allocation, strategic investments, and enterprise decisions, positioning marketing as a core driver of revenue, client expansion, and market leadership, while ensuring Africa’s priorities are represented in and aligned to enterprise decision-making and global investment strategies.
  • Acts as a strategic advisor on both commercial growth and corporate reputation, supporting the CEO and ExCo in navigating market positioning, stakeholder engagement, and reputational risk.

Regional Marketing Strategy & Growth:

  • Defines and leads a modern, insight-led marketing strategy that translates enterprise priorities into region-specific growth plans, ensuring alignment to global objectives while optimizing local market dynamics.
  • Ensures disciplined investment tied to ROI, pipeline, and revenue, while driving full-funnel performance from brand awareness through to conversion and customer growth.

Demand Generation, ABM & Revenue Marketing:

  • Leads a next-generation demand engine anchored in ABM, precision targeting, and personalized engagement.
  • Partners closely with sales to align on accounts and revenue goals, driving pipeline growth through integrated campaigns and lifecycle marketing, underpinned by clear attribution and performance metrics.

AI-Enabled & Data-Driven Marketing:

  • Champions AI and advanced analytics to enable predictive targeting, scalable personalization, and campaign optimization.
  • Embeds a test-and-learn culture, ensuring decisions are driven by data, insights, and measurable commercial outcomes.

Corporate Communications & Reputation Leadership:

  • Leads an integrated corporate communications function across internal and external audiences, ensuring clear, consistent, and strategically aligned messaging.
  • Owns and drives TransUnion Africa’s regional narrative, aligned to CEO priorities and enterprise strategy, while overseeing executive and CEO communications, thought leadership, and high-impact engagements.
  • Shapes media relations and market positioning beyond campaign PR, and acts as a trusted advisor to ExCo on crisis and reputational risk.
  • Drives internal communications to support engagement, culture, and change across markets.
  • Leads public affairs and stakeholder engagement with regulators, industry bodies, and partners to position TransUnion on financial inclusion, data integrity, and digital transformation across Africa.

Operating Model & Global Alignment:

  • Implements and evolves the global marketing operating model within Africa, ensuring alignment, consistency, and scalability.
  • Acts as the key link between regional and global teams while championing agile ways of working and integration into global planning cycles.

Integrated Campaigns & Communications:

  • Oversees the delivery of integrated, multi-channel marketing campaigns across digital, events, paid media, and content.
  • Ensure campaigns are insight-led, targeted, and aligned with revenue and pipeline objectives, with clear attribution and performance measurement.

Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Builds strong partnerships across Sales, Product, Strategy, and Risk & Compliance, aligning marketing to business priorities.
  • Enables sales through insights and programs, while feeding market intelligence into product and strategic decision-making.

Team Leadership & Capability Building:

  • Leads and develops a high-performing marketing team, building capabilities in ABM, digital, AI, and data analytics.
  • Fosters a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement, while effectively managing internal teams and external partners.

Brand, Reputation & Risk Management:

  • Protects and enhances brand and reputation across the region, ensuring alignment between marketing, communications, and corporate positioning.
  • Provides oversight on reputational risk, regulatory considerations, and ethical standards working closely with Legal and Risk.
  • Ensures brand governance while enabling locally relevant narrative and market positioning.
