As a Resident Engineer, you will oversee the daily operations of construction projects, serving as the on-site engineer and primary liaison between contractors, clients, and internal teams. What you’ll do
- Serve as the primary on-site representative for construction projects, ensuring compliance with contract documents, specifications, and regulatory standards.
- Manage and oversee day-to-day field operations for roadways, bridges, utility installations, and other civil infrastructure projects.
- Coordinate with contractors, subconsultants, municipal clients, and regulatory agencies to resolve issues and maintain project progress.
- Perform and document field inspections, materials testing, and quality control procedures.
- Monitor construction schedules and budgets; proactively identify and address potential delays or overruns.
- Maintain accurate project records, field notes, daily reports, and change documentation.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and project-specific requirements.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to field staff and engineering interns.
- Support project managers with closeout documentation, punch lists, and final inspections.
What it takes
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
- Licensed EIT preferred, Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in construction engineering, including roadway or municipal infrastructure projects.
- Experience with WisDOT and/or IDOT projects, specifications, and documentation procedures is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in construction inspection, documentation, and contract administration.
- Familiarity with field tools and software such as AASHTOWare Project, Microsoft Excel, and CAD-based systems.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites in the region.
