Position Summary:

The Human Resources Manager leads the HR team supporting our downtown Chicago office and portions of the Great Lakes region while serving as the HR Business Partner for Chicago-based corporate employees, including Titan Electronics.

This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced HR professional who can balance daily execution with meaningful process improvement. The HR Manager will lead an early-career team responsible for HR administration, onboarding, employee support, and other recurring HR activities. This individual will establish clear expectations, strengthen accountability, develop team capabilities, and ensure work is completed accurately and consistently.

The successful candidate will be highly organized, responsive, and comfortable stepping into the details. They will identify inefficient or unclear processes, develop practical solutions, and use HR technology to improve service delivery. They must also be a credible partner to leaders-providing sound guidance, appropriately challenging decisions, and helping the organization balance employee needs, compliance, and operational realities.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership and HR Operations

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team that may include HR generalists, administrators, coordinators, and onboarding staff.
  • Establish clear responsibilities, service standards, and performance expectations; assess team capabilities and address performance or skill gaps promptly.
  • Lead and actively participate in daily HR operations, including new-hire and separation processing, attendance administration, unemployment claims, I-9s, employee records, and employee inquiries.
  • Maintain oversight of HR transactions and workforce transitions to ensure work is accurate, timely, and consistently completed.
  • Model the professionalism, responsiveness, initiative, and accountability expected of the HR team.

HR Business Partnership and Employee Relations

  • Serve as the HR Business Partner for Chicago-based corporate employees, including Titan Electronics, and support suburban Chicago operations and other markets as needed.
  • Build strong relationships with operational leaders and provide practical guidance on employee relations, performance management, corrective action, and company policies.
  • Investigate employee concerns, document findings, and recommend appropriate action or resolution.
  • Support employee leave administration and coordinate with internal and external partners to ensure timely, compliant handling.
  • Partner with HR leadership and other HR Business Partners to promote consistent practices and effective service delivery.

Process Improvement and Employee Experience

  • Evaluate current HR processes and implement practical improvements that strengthen efficiency, consistency, compliance, and accountability.
  • Establish clear ownership and tracking practices so employee and manager requests are resolved promptly and do not fall through the cracks.
  • Lead and continuously improve corporate onboarding and orientation, ensuring new employees feel welcomed, informed, and supported.
  • Proactively follow up with new hires and identify recurring employee questions, service issues, or communication gaps.
  • Partner with the Director of HR Operations and Total Rewards to create consistent processes and connect employees with appropriate resources.

HR Technology, Compliance, and Administration

  • Improve how employee questions and requests are received, assigned, tracked, and resolved, including oversight of shared HR email channels.
  • Partner with HR leadership to expand the use of ServiceNow and other HR technology for case management, workflows, reporting, and response-time tracking.
  • Ensure consistent administration of company policies and compliance with applicable employment laws, collective bargaining agreements, and leave requirements.
  • Oversee I-9 compliance, employment records, HR audits, and applicable security-officer licensing requirements.
  • Support shared office-management responsibilities for the Chicago location in partnership with appropriate leaders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • At least five years of progressive HR experience, including experience leading, coaching, or developing HR staff.
  • Strong knowledge of employee relations, performance management, leave administration, I-9 compliance, and employment regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve HR processes, establish clear workflows, and balance leadership responsibilities with hands-on execution.
  • Experience supporting a multi-location, hourly, or unionized workforce and using ServiceNow or another case-management platform is preferred.

The targeted compensation for the role is $95,000-$105,000 base (DOE) plus bonus.
