UL Solutions is a safety science company headquartered in Northbrook, Illinois, that provides product testing, inspection and certification services, plus software and advisory services, for manufacturers in automotive, energy, building products, chemicals, consumer goods and electronics. Its heritage dates to 1894, when William Henry Merrill founded the organization now split into UL Solutions, UL Standards & Engagement and UL Research Institutes; UL Solutions listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2024. It hires project and laboratory engineers, laboratory technicians, auditors, cybersecurity consultants, sales executives and interns, with large hiring in Northbrook and East Asia.

As a member of the Wind Due Diligence team, the Senior Project Manager is responsible for managing and executing independent engineering and technical advisory services to support the financing, sale, or acquisition of wind onshore projects and portfolios across different countries.

  • Manage high-profile Independent Engineering (IE) and Technical Advisory (TA) projects supporting project financing, acquisitions, and divestments of wind projects and portfolios, including technology assessments, civil and electrical design reviews, CAPEX/OPEX evaluations, environmental and permitting reviews, schedule assessments, and technical due diligence.
  • Compile and deliver IE and TA reports, summarizing key findings, risks, and recommendations. Coordinate input from UL Solutions' multidisciplinary teams and ensure consistency and quality across all technical and commercial analyses.

  • Lead project execution by coordinating internal resources and project teams to ensure deliverables are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Serve as the primary client interface for lenders, developers, and other stakeholders. Build and maintain strong client relationships, facilitate meetings, and develop solutions that address client objectives.
  • Develop communication plans, prepare project status reports, and lead regular meetings with project teams, sponsors, and stakeholders.
  • Identify project risks, barriers, and issues, and develop appropriate mitigation strategies and recommendations.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff, supporting technical growth, knowledge sharing, and team capability development.
  • Promote the application of best practices and lessons learned across projects to improve consistency, efficiency, and quality.
  • Conduct site visits during construction and operation phases, including construction monitoring activities. Review project progress against technical specifications, budgets, and schedules, and prepare related monitoring and site visit reports.
  • Represent UL Solutions at industry conferences, client meetings, and business development activities.
  • Support the business strategy and growth objectives of the due diligence team.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field, combined with at least 7 years of experience in renewable energy, technical due diligence, or project engineering.
  • Solid understanding of wind turbine technology and experience conducting turbine technology assessments.
  • Understanding of key performance indicators (KPIs) for onshore wind projects and familiarity with energy yield modelling methodologies.
  • Experience supporting utility-scale wind projects, including project design reviews and the assessment of key project agreements such as TSA, BOP, O&M, PPA, asset management, and financing contracts.
  • Demonstrated project management and stakeholder coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver projects successfully.
  • Knowledge of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and solar PV technologies would be an advantage.
  • Fluent English is required. Proficiency in German, Italian, or Polish would be considered a strong asset, given the markets supported by this role.
