Senior Industrial Designer

Function: Product Development / R&D

Reports to: Wild R&D Packaging Manager

Location: London, with international travel required

JOB PURPOSE

We are looking for a Senior Industrial Designer to become Wild’s first dedicated hire in this discipline.

You will own the technical design and industrialisation of Wild’s product portfolio, from refillable cases and formats to new product categories. Working from concept through to production, you will ensure products are consumer-led, technically robust, cost-effective, sustainable and designed for manufacture.

You will work closely with Creative, Product, Operations and Retail teams, alongside global manufacturers and suppliers. You will also help build Wild’s internal industrial design capability, processes and standards as the business grows.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop manufacturer-ready 3D CAD, technical drawings, specifications and tech packs.

Own tolerancing, GD&T, draft angles, wall thicknesses and other design-for-manufacture requirements.

Translate early concepts into technically feasible, scalable and commercially viable product designs.

Build and assess prototypes to support research, validation and internal approval.

Evaluate manufacturing routes, tooling, materials and finishes, balancing quality, cost and sustainability.

Work directly with suppliers from feasibility and tooling kick-off through to production sign-off.

Validate pre-production and gold samples against agreed technical specifications.

Troubleshoot technical and quality issues, identifying practical and lasting solutions.

Improve manufacturability, logistics efficiency, sustainability and cost across new and existing products.

Establish and maintain Wild’s industrial design documentation, processes and technical standards.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Advanced 3D CAD and technical drawing capability, ideally using SolidWorks, KeyShot or similar.

Strong design-for-manufacture knowledge, including tolerancing, GD&T, tooling, injection moulding, materials and finishing.

Ability to balance design intent with manufacturing feasibility, cost, quality and sustainability.

Strong supplier management, technical problem-solving and cross-functional communication skills.

Performance

Demonstrated delivery of technically robust consumer products from concept through to manufacture.

Strong track record of resolving manufacturing, tooling or quality challenges.

Evidence of protecting design quality while operating within commercial and production constraints.

Ability to work independently, create effective processes and deliver at pace.

Experience

Three or more years’ experience in industrial design, product design or a related technical discipline.

Hands-on experience working with manufacturers and suppliers through feasibility, tooling, sampling and production.

Experience producing detailed CAD, technical drawings, specifications and production-ready tech packs.

Experience with high-volume consumer products; personal care, consumer goods or packaging experience is preferred.

Portfolio demonstrating technical rigour and end-to-end product execution from concept to manufacture.

Recruitment Fraud

Cyber criminals advertise fake job adverts with prestigious employers as a way of stealing information or even defrauding individuals out of money. In the most sophisticated cases, they will set up fake websites, which have a similar address to companies like Unilever. They even conduct fake telephone interviews and then offer candidates a role with the proviso they pay a fee for background checks or to cover work visa costs. These types of attacks are becoming more common as more people are looking for employment in the economic climate.

How is Unilever tackling this?

Many of Unilever’s recruitment sites publish a warning to candidates about recruitment fraud. The Cyber Security team also proactively scan for signs of people setting up fake Unilever sites and act to close them down.
