Job Description

The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Science (NRES) at the University of Nevada, Reno is seekinga dependable, organized, and customer service-oriented Fleet & Operations Assistant to support the day-to-day operation of the department's vehicle fleet. This is an excellent opportunity for students or individuals seekingflexible, hands-on experience in operations, customer service, transportation support, and administrative coordination. Working in a collaborative university environment,you'll help support the teaching, research, and outreach mission of the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology & Natural Resources (CABNR) while developing valuable organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills that are transferable to many career paths. This in-person position is based in the Fleischmann Agriculture Building on the University of Nevada, Reno campusand reports to the NRES NSHE Specialist. The Fleet & Operations Assistant will help coordinate vehicle reservations, prepare vehicles for departmental use, maintainfleet records, and provide excellent customer service to ensure department vehicles are safe, clean, and ready for faculty, staff, and student travel.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating reservations for the NRES Research Truck and NRES Field Trip Vans.

  • Checking vehicles in and out before and after each reservation by documenting mileage, fuel level, cleanliness, and any maintenance or damage concerns.

  • Preparing vehicles for use by fueling, cleaning, and performing basic safety inspections.

  • Driving department vehicles as needed for fueling, routine maintenance, inspections, and repair appointments.

  • Maintaining accuratefleet records, including mileage, maintenance, repairs, registrations, and vehicle usage through data entry and recordkeeping.

  • Monitoring routine maintenance schedules and notifying the supervisor when service is needed.

  • Assistingwith tracking authorized drivers, defensive driving certifications, and vehicle usage charges.

  • Providing friendly and professional customer service to faculty, staff, and students using department vehicles.

  • Assistingwith other department operations and duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

  • Ability to pass a background check.

  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and data entry.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.

  • Ability to work independently, follow established procedures, and manage multiple tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in customer service, office support, transportation, logistics, or fleet operations.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, or scheduling software.

  • Basic knowledge of vehicle care and preventative maintenance.
