As part of a major expansion of its research programs, the School of Human Kinetics (SHK) in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position with scholarly expertise in the area of neuromotor control and motor learning, starting July 1st, 2027.

The SHK provides a bilingual, interdisciplinary academic and research environment in which to study. At the undergraduate level the SHK offers a Honours Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics (BSc), emphasizing the biophysical sciences of human kinetics, with a focus on the role that biological, anatomical, musculoskeletal, and neuromotor systems have on motor performance. At the graduate level, students can complete a Master of Science or PhD in Human Kinetics, specializing in neuromotor control and motor learning. We seek a highly qualified scholar whose work advances our understanding of human movement and neuromotor control in healthy individuals and/or patient populations using experimental, computational, and/or applied techniques.

Title of the positions: Assistant professor (Associate or Full Professor under certain conditions)

Duties: The functions of a member of the academic staff include, in varying proportions:

a) Contribute to teaching various Neuromotor Control / Motor Learning courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in both official languages (French and English);

b) Lead and sustain a competitive, externally funded program in neuromotor control and motor learning-related research involving graduate student supervision;

c) Contribute to regular administrative processes at the School, Faculty, and/or University level;

d) Supervise thesis-based graduate students in the Master of Science and PhD programs.

Terms: New tenure-track position

Wage: Salary scale for an assistant professor starts at $99,377 (as of May 1, 2025)

Skills requirements:

  • Education : Ph.D. in Human Kinetics or related field (concentration neuromotor control and motor learning).
  • Work experience:
    • University level teaching with a demonstrated track record of excellence.
    • Research excellence as demonstrated by a competitive externally-funded research program and scholarly achievement.
    • An active knowledge of the two official languages (French and English) is required at hiring.
