The Associate Data Analyst role will be an integral part of Graduate Student Affairs at the Wharton School. Reporting to the Director of Evaluation & Selection and working closely with the Data Scientist and Lead Data Analyst, this position will work cross divisionally for the Full-Time MBA Program and MBA Program for Executives. This role will support Wharton's mission of providing a personalized and student-centric student experience and will harness the power of data and technology to help inform strategic initiatives aimed at guiding students to optimal outcomes.

Job Description

This position requires skills in data governance, processing, and collection and an ability to collaborate on projects with various stakeholders. Key responsibilities include:

Data Collection and Quality Management

  • Contribute to the improvement of data collection methods, study design, survey administration, measurement instruments, and data management processes.
  • Perform data quality assurance by validating datasets for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and integrity, and by identifying and resolving data discrepancies.
  • Develop and maintain data documentation, including data codebook, metadata, and documentation of data collection procedures.

Data Processing

  • Execute and monitor established data workflows, including running existing Python, R, SQL, and other automated scripts that support recurring data projects.
  • Process, transform, and prepare data for analysis.
  • Assist with data analysis, interpretation, and reporting to support institutional planning, assessment, program evaluation, and evidence-based decision-making.

Collaboration and Project Coordination

  • Collaborate with staff across multiple offices to collect, manage, and coordinate data for a variety of projects.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with staff across the institution to facilitate effective collaboration.
  • Coordinate project timelines across multiple offices to ensure project milestones and deliverables are completed on schedule.

A key component of this role is to communicate technical and quantitative concepts to a broad, non-technical audience, including senior management, and to train and provide technical support and thought partnership to colleagues. The Associate Data Analyst will be expected to be able to work both independently and as part of a team, and to contribute to multiple projects at a time.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree and 2-3 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
  • A degree in quantitative discipline is preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience is preferred.
  • Attention to detail is crucial to this position; in particular, ability and willingness to extract and process data from various sources, as well as having a keen eye for data integrity and quality issues
  • Proficiency in building and managing dashboards and reports is preferred.
  • Some data visualization skills and the ability to tell a story with data are preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to quickly learn data governance and analysis skills is strongly preferred. Familiarity with Excel, PowerBI, R, Python, SQL is preferred.
  • Ability to use data to support operations, including being able to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Understanding of FERPA parameters and data integrity.
  • Ability to perform tasks in a fast-paced environment, with tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, are required

Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job’s level.
