Job Description

Cultivate Learning has an outstanding opportunity for a Python/Django ReactJS Website Developer to join their team.

About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Lead Software Engineer, the Python/Django ReactJS Website Developer will port 2-3 existing College of Education sites from PHP to Python and support initial release, defect resolution, and maintenance. The Python/Django ReactJS Website Developer will help the college deploy robust and user-friendly systems. In addition, the Web Developer will support the portfolio of the Software Engineer. The position is for a 10-12-month full-time position with the possibility of an extension.

Key Responsibilities

Website Development (70%)

  • Under the direction of the Software Engineer, develop and maintain a scalable website using Python, Django, ReactJS, and PostgreSQL.

  • Build and manage RESTful APIs and integrate third-party services.

  • Develop responsive and intuitive user interfaces using modern front-end technologies.

  • Deploy and manage applications on AWS using Linux-based environments.

  • Ensure application performance, security, and scalability.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

  • Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize code for performance and reliability.

  • Write clean and reusable code that can be easily maintained and scaled.

  • Manage code and participate in code reviews as part of build and release cycles (i.e., Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment).

Testing & Defect Resolution (10%)

  • Gather user feedback and refine website design and code in cooperation with content and web design teams.

  • Investigate and resolve bugs, upgrade existing software when needed.

  • Monitor application performance; investigate and resolve problems.

Documentation (10%)

  • Write and maintain documentation for users, developers, and to support ongoing maintenance of systems.

  • Review existing documentation for accuracy and usefulness.

Collaboration (10%)

  • Participate in meetings and work collaboratively with stakeholders to determine development progress and status, technical design needs, and functional/business requirements.

  • Work with product management to solicit feedback and facilitate a continuous improvement cycle.

  • Have a broad awareness of current and emerging technology.

  • Evaluate options and make recommendations for solutions that fit organizational needs and resources.

  • Review current processes for optimization and automation.

  • Prioritize and manage time effectively.

Required Qualifications

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Informatics, Information Science and 2+ years of experience analyzing, designing, developing, installing, and maintaining websites and services with emphasis in Python and Django or equivalent experience.

  • Applicants who do not meet these qualifications WILL NOT be forwarded to the Hiring Manager.

Additional Qualifications

  • Knowledge and proficiency with Python web frameworks such as Django, Flask, etc.

  • Knowledge and proficiency with front-end technologies, such as JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.

  • Solid experience with ReactJS and modern JavaScript/TypeScript for front-end development.

  • Proficiency in PostgreSQL and database schema design

  • Experience working in Linux environments and deploying applications on AWS

  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git)

  • Ability to think strategically, problem solve, and proactively design solutions that are useful, robust, and supportable.

  • Web development experience in a collaborative environment, practicing good code management techniques.

  • Excellent self-initiated problem-solving skills and an ability to prioritize tasks to meet multiple deadlines.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal skills, including problem solving and consensus building.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with cloud platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).

  • Experience with front-end frameworks (e.g., Bootstrap, jQuery).

  • Experience with Linux and Apache administration.

  • Experience with ticketing systems (e.g., Jira, Freshservice)

  • Familiarity with containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Familiarity with API endpoint development.

  • Familiarity with usability testing and ADA accessibility standards.

  • Experience with AI in software dev

  • Broad interest in technology and enthusiasm for exploring emerging approaches.

  • Knowledge and/or experience with PHP language.
