Job Description

The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine currently has an exciting opportunity for four Research Coordinator 2 positions to join its team.

About this opportunity

This position supports the School Mental Health Assessment, Research, and Training (SMART) Center within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences by coordinating a multi-site, school-based suicide prevention research study across Washington State. The Research Coordinator 2 will recruit and engage participants, coordinate study activities and data collection, and deliver evidence-based interventions, including Signs of Suicide (SOS) and Youth Aware of Mental Health (YAM), to students in grades 8-10. The position collaborates with investigators, research staff, schools, and community partners to ensure successful study implementation, intervention fidelity, participant retention, data quality, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Research Interventionist: Delivery and Fidelity (50%).

  • Deliver or support delivery of evidence-based behavioral interventions in school settings.

  • Complete required certifications and ongoing training for intervention protocols.

  • Monitor and document fidelity to intervention models.

  • Participate in supervision and consultation sessions to ensure intervention quality.

  • Work in team setting with co-delivery of interventions with at least one partner.

Research Project Coordination (50%).

  • Recruit, screen, consent, and enroll participants in accordance with IRB-approved protocols and federal regulations.

  • Serve as primary contact for participants and school partners.

  • Maintain participant engagement and retention throughout study period.

  • Coordinate day-to-day operations of assigned research studies, including planning, implementation, and tracking of study activities.

  • Independently manage timelines, deliverables, and study progress across multiple school-based sites.

  • Identify operational challenges and implement solutions in collaboration with investigators.

  • Assist as needed with scheduling meetings, organization and distribution of all meeting minutes and study communications, processing travel reimbursements, ordering supplies, and finalization and ordering of study materials.

  • Data Collection & Management

    • Collect, enter, and manage research data with high accuracy and timeliness.

    • Maintain study databases (e.g., REDCap or equivalent).

    • Perform data quality checks, resolve discrepancies, and respond to data queries.

    • Develop and maintain source documentation and study tracking logs.

  • Regulatory Compliance

    • Maintain regulatory documents and study binders in compliance with IRB, GCP, HIPAA, and institutional policies.

    • Ensure all study activities meet ethical and regulatory standards.

    • Report protocol deviations, adverse events, and participant safety concerns.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Science or Health or a related field and two years of experience with children’s community and school mental health research and human subjects and intervention research.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Goal-oriented and self-directive, ability to manage complex projects independently

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet competing priorities

  • Ability to actively participate as a team player

  • Proactively identify problems, propose and carry out solutions

  • Ability to effectively communicate with study participants and community partners

  • 2-3 years post-bachelor’s experience in children’s community and school mental health research and human subjects and intervention research.

  • Experience conducting focus groups, research interviews, electronic survey

  • Experience coordinating school based and/or community-based research involving human subjects and data management activities

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices

  • Knowledge of school-based universal prevention programs that support social, emotional, and mental health

  • Experience working with educational systems, children's mental health

Working Conditions:

  • Driving and personal vehicle required
