UW Information Technology has an outstanding opportunity for Productivity Platforms Engineer to join their team.

About this Opportunity

Reporting to Technology Manager, the Productivity Platforms Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting and resolving complex support problems related to interactions among productivity platforms, web browsers, and desktop applications. The role also contributes to enterprise technology initiatives by collaborating with UWIT teams and campus partners on projects involving Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Canvas, MyUW, and other integrated services. In addition, the Productivity Platforms Engineer serves as a technical resource and educator, helping members of the UW community, peer institutions, and technology vendors better understand and effectively use these productivity platforms.

This is an essential position and is required to report to work remotely when UW suspends operations.

Key Responsibilities

(60%) Administration, Automation, and Reporting

• Create, manage, monitor, and optimize Azure resources as needed.
• Administer and support Microsoft 365, Power Platform, and Google Workspace environments, including user provisioning, licensing, access management, governance, security, and platform configuration.
• Comfortable working with cloud data sources such as Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Blob Storage, Dataverse, and other Microsoft 365 data services.
• Comfortable working with PowerShell and automation technologies in cloud environments, including Azure Functions, Azure Automation, Microsoft Graph, and Power Platform administration.
• Understand how integrations with Entra ID, Microsoft 365, Power Platform, Google Workspace, and third-party applications work, including application registrations, authentication, authorization, and API-based integrations.
• Create and maintain automation, reporting, and monitoring solutions to improve operational efficiency and provide actionable insights.
• Maintain system, platform, and data security in accordance with UW policies and Productivity Platforms team practices.
• Support identity, access, compliance, and governance requirements across Azure, Microsoft 365, Power Platform, and Google Workspace environments.

(30%) Tier 3 Support and Incident Management

• Monitor UW Connect assignment groups and ensure incidents, requests, and service tickets are triaged, assigned, and addressed in accordance with UWIT policies, procedures, and service expectations.
• Communicate with users about state of requests or issues, and work with them to gather any needed details
• Create, monitor, and escalate support request with Microsoft and Google as needed to address requests and incidents
• Participate in on-call support rotations and respond to after-hours escalations to help maintain service availability and operational continuity.

(10%) Organizational Participation and Collaboration

• Attend and actively participate in team, department, and organizational meetings.
• Contribute to team initiatives, knowledge sharing, process improvement efforts, and cross-functional collaboration activities.
• Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, platform enhancements, and UWIT priorities through ongoing engagement with organizational activities and professional development opportunities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Informatics or related field or experience
• Minimum of 4 years’ experience administering Microsoft 365 and/or Google Workspace for Education
• Experience administering cloud computing infrastructure using Azure, Microsoft 365 and/or Google Cloud Platform
• Experience in creating and maintaining provisioning and systems management automation using PowerShell
• Experience creating and maintaining provisioning and systems management automation using Microsoft Graph API and/or Google API
• Experience creating and maintaining Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Office products, and/or Google products
• A working knowledge of desktop application troubleshooting
• Demonstrated ability self-train on new products, protocols, standards and applications and the ability to communicate impacts and procedures to customers and support staff
• Excellent customer service skills
• Excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in server, client-side scripting, and REST APIs
• Working knowledge of Python, JavaScript, and SQL
• Working understanding of Windows Domain and Active Directory
• Working understanding of Microsoft Entra ID

Working Conditions

The general working hours are within Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The Productivity Platforms Engineer must be willing to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of colleagues and partners. Events that will occur outside the normal work schedule include, but are not limited to impromptu staff meetings, client consultations, and system modifications. Likewise, this position has regular stringent deadlines revolving around the academic calendar that may require extended work hours. The position also requires 24X7 on-call support to handle urgent issues and incidents.

This is a hybrid position with onsite work in an open office environment.
