SDET QA Automation

We are looking for a Senior Quality Engineer to join an agile product team that builds a learner-facing study experience across iOS, Android, and web. This is an embedded role.

You will partner with product and engineering to own the quality practice for the team, not to run manual testing for others. As the team shifts quality testing closer to the code, you will help move end-to-end test suites into the application repositories, keep them healthy over time, and help engineers understand what to test and how to test it. You will be expected to become an expert in the applications and to think across whole features, not just individual pull requests.

• Partner with product managers and engineers to define test strategy and plans for features, thinking holistically across all the work that makes up a feature
• Maintain and extend the Playwright end-to-end test suites as they move into the application code repositories
• Build and maintain smoke test suites that act as quality gates in CI/CD pipelines
• Fix test breakage caused by changes such as browser updates or locator changes
• Help engineers understand what to test and how to test it, and coach the team on good testing practices
• Help grow unit and integration test coverage so the team has faster, less expensive tests
• Answer questions about how features are supposed to work, drawing on your product and application knowledge
• Find bugs, and where possible help fix them
• Explore AI-assisted approaches to improve the testing practice

• Senior level experience in quality engineering or test automation, with strong hands-on coding skills
• Strong experience with Playwright and TypeScript for end-to-end automation
• Experience testing modern web applications, ideally built with React or Next.js
• Experience testing mobile applications on iOS and Android
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, preferably GitHub Actions
• Ability to design test strategy across a full feature and explain it clearly to engineers and product partners
• Strong communication skills and comfort working as part of an agile team
• Ownership mindset and willingness to teach others

• Experience with API and integration testing
• Experience with unit testing practices and frameworks
• Experience with K6 for performance testing
• Experience with accessibility testing tools such as Evinced
• Experience using AI-assisted tools to improve testing workflows
• Experience with synthetic monitoring or alerting on critical user journeys (e.g., New Relic)

• Up to two interviews: a technical assessment with the team's QE, then a team fit conversation
