The Opportunity

As an Injury Adjuster Apprentice, you will be prepared to handle auto bodily injury claims with confidence and care. Through a combination of formal training, hands-on experience, and mentorship, you’ll develop the technical expertise and decision-making skills needed to support members during some of life’s most challenging moments.

This program teaches the skills necessary to evaluate and analyze auto physical damage from photos combined with the facts of loss to develop an accurate estimate for repairs.

The role would require an individual to be f ull-time, in-office (5 days per week) for the duration of the training. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship program, employees will transition to a hybrid schedule (combination of in-office and remote work).

This position will be based at the San Antonio, TX location. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Overview:

• Training Schedule: Targeted hiring for aJanuary 25, 2027 start date. PTO opportunities may be limited during training period.
• Work Schedule: Must be available to work Monday through Friday, 8am - 5pm
• Training Model: Instructor-led training, real-time claims handling, and one-on-one mentorships
• Progression: Advancement within the program will be based on demonstrated competencies and performance
• Licensing: Support provided to obtain required state adjuster licenses

What you'll do:

Under guidance and with increasing independence, you will:

• Investigate, evaluate, and resolve auto bodily injury claims while delivering a high level of member service
• Communicate with members, claimants, attorneys, and third parties to gather facts and provide updates
• Analyze coverage, assess liability, and evaluate damages including medical injuries
• Review and interpret medical records, police reports, and other claim documentation
• Establish and manage claim reserves within authority guidelines
• Develop and execute claim strategies to drive timely and fair resolution
• Negotiate settlements with claimants within authority levels
• Identify potential fraud and escalate concerns to appropriate teams
• Maintain accurate and compliant claim file documentation
• Partner with internal and external stakeholders to support claim resolution
• Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

• To qualify, you must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree with an anticipated graduation date of December 2026, or have a completed a Bachelor's degree
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Effective communication skills with the ability to navigate sensitive conversations
• Demonstrated ability to make decisions and solve problems
• Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Customer-focused mindset with empathy and professionalism
• Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to obtain and maintain required insurance adjuster license

What sets you apart:

• Business, criminal justice, prelaw, or health related degree
• Experience in insurance, financial services, or customer-facing roles
• Exposure to legal, medical, or claims-related environments
• Interest in negotiation, investigation, or conflict resolution
• US military experience gained through military service or gained as a military spouse / domestic partner

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $57,970 - $97,820.

Licensed positions require a background check, that includes criminal history, education, employment verification, and a credit check consistent with applicable laws.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
