2nd Shift: Monday to Friday (2:30Pm-11PM)
A Brief Summary of This Position
Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Material Controller Lead position. We are looking for a highly driven individual that will, under the direction of supervision of shipping leadership, direct all activities regarding shipping orders to meet customer requests and delivery dates. Incumbent coordinates with traffic, for extracts from the bills of lading and shipping documents to load outbound shipments. Understands all documents pertaining to storage, staging and loading. Maintains housekeeping in area, observes all safety rules to company standards. Understands and participates in accurate department inventory and move procedures. In addition to this, this position is responsible for loading outbound shipments as per shipping orders and pick sheet. Responsible for the checking of the proper identification of material being shipped by size, gauge, length, count and quality. Ability to operate the forklift, banding tools, and operates the overhead crane.
Essential Functions:
- Gather parts, move, and load material to complete orders in an accurate and timely manner
- Loading and unloading product in route to and from galvanizer, staging, and loading for shipment
- This person will load truck trailers and must know the product and the weight in order to ensure proper loading
- Accurately process bills of lading, shipping orders, and other paperwork as required
- Operate various equipment including forklift, banding tools, and overhead crane
- Assist with cycle counts and material handling moves from staging to storage
- This position is also responsible for reporting any unsafe conditions to supervisor
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
- Three (3) years relevant shipping or loading experience
- Ability to accurately read tape measures and micrometers
- Ability to stand 90% of time
- Able to work outside in extreme heat or cold
- Able to operate forklift, overhead cranes, hand and banding tools
- Must be accurate in logging inventory transactions
- The ability to work overtime when required for business needs
- A working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel and Word
- Working knowledge of Valmont’s shipping process
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications
- Excellent communication, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills
- Initiative to resolve issues in a timely manner
- 2 years of leadership experience in a shipping specific role
- The ability to accurately and honestly check one’s own work for quality assurance
- Training in Lean Manufacturing processes
- Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
- Be able to work in fast paced high volume environment
Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is performed in a shipping yard, with most of the time being spent outside exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures. The incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. This position will be exposed to all hazards located at manufacturing sites including noise, fumes, excessive heat/cold, dust, welding arc, all chemicals associated with the manufacturing areas, fire, smoke, unstable debris and confined spaces. Environment is fast-paced and demanding most of the time.
The employee is frequently required to use hands to fingers, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrist rests. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds in working with large files, binders, computer equipment and shop equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
