Position Overview
This position will be based remotely in the United States.
The Vice President, Global Media Relations will establish and lead Vantage's global media relations function, creating a proactive, narrative-driven media strategy that advances business objectives, strengthens corporate reputation, and positions Vantage as the leading voice in the digital infrastructure industry.
Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, Chief Marketing & Communications Officer, this newly created leadership role will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive global media strategy across top-tier business media, trade media, policy and regulatory media, technology media, sustainability media, and local media markets where Vantage operates. The role will focus on building meaningful relationships with journalists, editors, producers, analysts, and influencers while educating media stakeholders on the critical role digital infrastructure and data centers play in enabling economic growth, innovation, sustainability, and a modern digital world.
The Vice President will lead efforts to identify and address misinformation and disinformation about the data center industry in the media, proactively shape public narratives, and create opportunities that demonstrate Vantage's value to customers, communities, policymakers, and society. This leader will work closely with executive leadership, public policy, government affairs, sustainability, operations, development, and regional marketing teams to ensure consistent, strategic engagement across media channels and stakeholder audiences.
Initially focused on North America, this role will build and lead a global team supporting North America, EMEA, and APAC, with plans to grow the function to approximately four team members over the next 18 months.
The ideal candidate is an experienced communications executive with deep media relations expertise, strong journalist relationships, excellent news judgment, and a proven track record of shaping narratives in complex, highly scrutinized, or highly regulated industries.
Essential Job Functions
Global Media Strategy & Leadership
Develop and execute Vantage's first comprehensive proactive media relations strategy aligned with corporate growth, reputation, public affairs, and business objectives.
Transform the company's media engagement model from reactive response management to proactive narrative development and thought leadership.
Establish annual media objectives, strategic priorities, and measurable outcomes that support business and reputation goals.
Build a scalable global media relations function, including organizational design, operating model, governance, and agency management.
Serve as Vantage's senior media relations spokesperson and advisor and a trusted counselor to executive leadership.
Support major corporate announcements, transactions, milestones, events, and issues management activities.
Media Relationship Development
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key journalists, editors, producers, and influencers across business, technology, infrastructure, sustainability, policy, financial, trade, and local media.
Create a systematic reporter education program that increases understanding of the data center industry, digital infrastructure, energy use, sustainability initiatives, economic impact, and community benefits.
Establish Vantage as a trusted, credible, and accessible source for journalists.
Corporate Storytelling & Narrative Development
Identify, develop, and pitch proactive stories that demonstrate the value of data centers to local communities, economies, customers, and society.
Lead efforts to position Vantage and its executives as industry thought leaders across key topics including AI infrastructure, sustainability, energy innovation, economic development, workforce development, and public policy.
Identify opportunities to contribute to ongoing media discussions and emerging industry narratives.
Reputation Management & Issues Communications
Lead media strategy and response planning for significant business issues, crisis situations, and reputation-related matters.
Build processes for monitoring and addressing misinformation, disinformation, and inaccuracies in the media affecting Vantage or the broader digital infrastructure industry.
Partner closely with Public Policy, Government Affairs, Sustainability, Legal, and Operations teams to ensure coordinated issue management.
Executive Visibility & Thought Leadership
Partner with the Executive Leadership Team to elevate corporate visibility and industry influence.
Identify and secure high-value media opportunities, interviews, profiles, editorial board meetings, podcasts, and speaking opportunities.
Develop executive media engagement strategies and media training programs to prepare leaders for interviews and public appearances.
Regional & Community Media Engagement
Develop programs to strengthen media relationships in local communities where Vantage develops and operates data centers.
Support project-related communications efforts by working closely with regional teams, government affairs professionals, and community stakeholders.
Ensure local media engagement aligns with broader corporate messaging and reputation objectives.
Partner with regional marketing teams across North America, EMEA, and APAC to support local and regional media initiatives.
Monitoring, Measurement & Intelligence
Establish and manage a comprehensive media monitoring and intelligence program to track media coverage, sentiment, share of voice, message penetration, spokesperson visibility, journalist engagement, and reputation trends.
Monitor industry, policy, competitive, and societal discussions to identify risks and opportunities.
Use analytics and insights to continuously refine media strategy and demonstrate business impact.
Team Leadership & Development
Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing global media relations team expected to grow to approximately four professionals within 18 months.
Provide coaching, professional development, and strategic direction to team members.
Manage agency relationships and external partners in support of global media objectives.
Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence.
Additional Responsibilities
Support special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned by the SVP, Chief Marketing & Communications Officer.
Represent Vantage externally with media, associations, industry groups, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
Additional duties as assigned by Management.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Affairs, Political Science, Marketing, or related field required.
15+ years of progressive media relations, corporate communications, public affairs, or reputation management experience.
Minimum 7 years of leadership experience managing teams and complex communications programs.
Proven success building and leading proactive media relations programs in large, global organizations.
Established relationships with national business media, trade media, technology media, and policy journalists strongly preferred.
Experience operating in complex, highly visible, highly regulated, politically sensitive, or scrutinized industries strongly preferred.
Demonstrated success influencing public narratives and managing high-profile issues.
Exceptional media relations, storytelling, executive communications, and strategic planning skills.
Deep understanding of crisis communications, reputation management, and stakeholder engagement.
Experience working across global markets and matrixed organizations.
Strong executive presence and ability to advise and influence senior leaders.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of digital media monitoring and analytics platforms.
Data center, digital infrastructure, technology, energy, telecommunications, industrial, real estate, or related sector experience preferred.
Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) Style strongly desired.
Travel required is expected to be up to 25% but may increase over time as business evolves.
What Success Looks Like
Within the first 12-18 months, this leader will:
Build Vantage's first dedicated global media relations function and operating model.
Shift media engagement from predominantly reactive responses to proactive narrative leadership.
Significantly increase positive, strategic media coverage across top-tier, trade, policy, and local media outlets.
Establish select Vantage executives as leading voices in digital infrastructure, AI, sustainability, and public policy discussions.
Develop trusted relationships with key journalists covering technology, infrastructure, energy, policy, and capital markets.
Create measurable improvements in share of voice, message pull-through, media sentiment, and executive visibility.
Build a robust framework for addressing misinformation and educating stakeholders about the value of digital infrastructure and data centers.
Develop a high-performing global team capable of supporting media engagement across North America, EMEA, and APAC.

Additional Details
Salary Range: $270,000 - 290,000 Base + Bonus (this range is based on Colorado market data and may vary in other locations)
