Low Voltage Field Technician

Summary:  

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Low Voltage Field Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, testing, and maintenance of low-voltage systems, including Cat6 cabling, access control, security camera systems, and fiber optic cabling. The position requires frequent travel to various job sites to ensure the successful execution of projects. 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Install, terminate, test, label, and troubleshoot Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber-optic cabling.
  • Install and service network equipment, including switches, routers, wireless access points, ONTs, gateways, and related hardware.
  • Deploy, configure, and test in-unit internet and Wi-Fi equipment across multifamily communities.
  • Install, mount, configure, aim, and troubleshoot IP-based security cameras.
  • Install and service access-control and door-security systems, including card/fob readers, controllers, door contacts, electric strikes, and magnetic locks.Install and troubleshoot VoIP and analog phone systems, including pool, elevator, emergency, and property phones.
  • Install and service audio/visual equipment, including televisions, speakers, amplifiers, displays, and associated cabling.
  • Perform cable certification, connectivity testing, and system testing to ensure installations meet company standards.
  • Troubleshoot network, cabling, PoE, power, connectivity, and hardware issues across supported systems.
  • Complete new property activations, construction trim-outs, technology upgrades, equipment replacements, and service calls.
  • Perform site surveys to identify cabling requirements, equipment locations, infrastructure concerns, and installation challenges.
  • Read and interpret construction plans, low-voltage drawings, floor plans, wiring diagrams, and equipment schedules.
  • Install and maintain organized MDF/IDF rooms, network racks, patch panels, cable management, and equipment labeling.
  • Document installed assets, equipment locations, device information, cable paths, and completed work accurately.
  • Complete assigned service tickets, installation checklists, testing documentation, and project updates in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with property management, maintenance teams, construction teams, vendors, and internal engineering personnel.
  • Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot fiber-optic cabling, including the use of optical power meters, VFLs, and other fiber testing equipment.
  • Deploy GPON and XGS-PON networks, including OLTs, ONTs/ONUs, optical splitters, fiber distribution, provisioning, and troubleshooting within multifamily (MDU) environments.
  • Identify and communicate project delays, infrastructure issues, material shortages, and installation concerns to management.
  • Maintain company tools, test equipment, vehicles, and assigned inventory in a clean and organized condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures, PPE requirements, ladder safety practices, and low-voltage installation standards.
  • Ensure every installation is fully tested, operational, labeled, documented, and professionally completed before leaving the property.

Qualifications: 

  • 2+ years of experience in low-voltage, telecommunications, structured cabling, networking, security systems, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working in multifamily (MDU), commercial, or new-construction environments preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Cat5e/Cat6 structured cabling, including termination, testing, labeling, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience installing, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting fiber-optic cabling.
  • Working knowledge of GPON and XGS-PON networks, including OLTs, ONTs/ONUs, optical splitters, and fiber distribution.
  • Experience installing and troubleshooting network equipment, IP security cameras, access-control systems, and VoIP equipment.
  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking, DHCP, VLANs, PoE, and Wi-Fi technologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, floor plans, wiring diagrams, and low-voltage plans.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills with the ability to work independently in the field.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between sites as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights when installing cameras or wireless equipment.
  • Ability to crawl, kneel, and work in confined spaces for cabling and equipment installation.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking job sites, and working on a computer.
  • Ability to travel regularly between community locations.

Work Environment: 

  • Combination of field-based and technical support work.
  • Work performed in indoor equipment rooms, construction sites, and outdoor environments.
  • May require occasional after-hours or on-call support for critical outages.
  • Fast-paced environment supporting multiple properties and infrastructure systems.
  • Direct interaction with property managers, vendors, contractors, and engineering teams.
