The Opportunity
Versant is looking for a Real-Time Graphics Artist to join our Creative Operations team, helping build and advance the real-time graphics workflows that power live sports and entertainment experiences.
This is a hands-on, highly collaborative role combining the creative capabilities of a 3D generalist with the technical expertise of a Vizrt and Unreal Engine artist. You’ll create high-fidelity visual assets, implement them within real-time environments, and collaborate with artists, designers, engineers, and production partners to bring ambitious creative concepts to life.
You’ll work across Viz Engine, Unreal Engine, and supporting production tools to develop immersive environments and data-driven graphics while balancing visual quality with the performance and reliability required for live production.
Why This Role Matters: Real-time technology is changing how audiences experience sports and entertainment. Your work will help expand Versant’s creative capabilities, improve the workflows behind our productions, and create compelling new ways to visualize stories and complex data across platforms.
This is a fully remote position. While the role is designed for remote work, employees should expect opportunities for in-person collaboration, team gatherings, production needs, or other business activities approximately 10% of the time.
What You'll Do
- Build real-time experiences: Create, implement, rig, and optimize real-time scenes and graphics using Vizrt Artist, Viz Engine, and Unreal Engine while following established technical architecture and production standards.
- Deliver high visual fidelity: Develop immersive environments, high-quality 3D assets, PBR materials, and dynamic lighting solutions that balance creative ambition with the performance requirements of live production.
- Develop interactive systems: Build real-time logic, procedural systems, and graphics triggers using Vizrt scripting and Unreal Engine Blueprints to support live data integration and interactive experiences.
- Optimize for live production: Profile and troubleshoot complex scenes to maintain reliable performance, including consistent frame rates of 60fps+ where required for live broadcast and large-scale display environments.
- Advance creative workflows: Build and improve pipelines connecting DCC tools such as Maya, Cinema 4D, and Blender with real-time engines, helping artists move efficiently from concept through production.
- Explore what’s next: Evaluate emerging real-time capabilities and technologies-including Lumen, Nanite, and PCG-and identify practical opportunities to strengthen Versant’s sports and entertainment productions.
What You Bring
- 4+ years of experience in 3D and real-time production, including at least 2 years working within sports and entertainment environments.
- Hands-on experience building real-time graphics and environments using Vizrt and Unreal Engine.
- Working knowledge of Vizrt scripting and templating technologies, including VBScript, HTML5, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
- Experience with 3D and design tools such as Maya, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, Blender, Photoshop, After Effects, Substance Painter/Designer, or comparable tools.
- Strong understanding of real-time rendering pipelines, GPU optimization, PBR workflows, lighting, and performance profiling.
- A portfolio demonstrating strong real-time design capabilities, including interactive or self-service graphics and highly realistic compositions.
- The ability to diagnose and resolve technical and creative challenges within the time-sensitive environment of live production.
- Flexibility to work extended or non-business hours when production needs require.
You’ll also bring Versant’s How We Do It behaviors to your work: Trust in how you collaborate and deliver; Teamwork across creative, technical, and production partners; Transparency when communicating opportunities, risks, and constraints; Agility when priorities or live-production requirements change; and Entrepreneurial Spirit in experimenting with new technologies and finding better ways to create and deliver real-time experiences.
Bonus points for:
- Experience with additional real-time broadcast platforms such as Ross XPression, Pixotope, or Zero Density.
- Knowledge of Python or C++ for engine-side customization.
- Experience with version control systems such as Perforce or Git.
- Familiarity with large-scale display technologies, including LED video walls and projection mapping.
Why You’ll Love It Here
You’ll have the opportunity to combine creative craft and emerging technology while contributing to real-time experiences across Versant’s sports and entertainment portfolio. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, experiment with evolving real-time tools, and help shape workflows that support high-profile live productions.
